Won't let me play my sounds

I installed the latest build 7100 and it won't let me play my music. I get a popup window with the message:

Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.

I tried taking ownership of the directory, but still no go.
What am I doing wrong??

Of course, I have all my drivers. I get the Windows sounds and can hear sounds when I go to Youtube. The problem is that I don't seem to have permission to play my music files that are on another partition of my hard drive and were saved there by another version of Windows. I had the same problem with seeing my pictures until I "took ownership" of them in Win7. But I can't do it with my audio files.

That doesn't sound like codecs to me. I think you need to keep looking at the permissions. Not just the owner but whether you have read, write, execute access.

Try downloading another MP3 and see if it plays.

Downloaded another MP3 and it plays fine. Just can't play the ones I already have on my drive. I have tried setting them to share and everything else. Still locked out of my music files.

Can you post a screenshot like this of an MP3 and also the parent folder?

OK, here's the screenshot. Notice I have all the permissions, but still can't play my sounds. If I drop back to Vista or XP, I can play them. Most of them were saved in XP64 with some in Vista 64. (I have triple-boot here.)

You could have that and still have something in the advanced tab overriding it.

Check all the permissions in advanced and check the parent folder. Also, double check who the owner is under advanced.

Well, I checked all that and had all the permissions and still couldn't play them. Wouldn't play in Vista either, but played fine in XP. So, I just recopied all of them from my backup on my external HD and now they all play fine in W7.
Haven't tried them in Vista yet
