Hi,

I figured out how to get this scanner to work in Vista 64 about a year ago and have now got it working in Windows 7 x64. So in case you didn't see my Vista post i thought I'd post it in here also.

It uses the Canoscan LiDE 60 scanner 64bit driver:

Files required: Winrar, lide60vst6411111a_64en. Canoscan Toolbox 4.9 or 4.5

Use Winrar, right click the file and select Extract to lide60vst6411111a_64en\

Open the folder it creates 'ide60vst6411111a_64en'

Inside the folder you'll find SetupSG.exe, extract it the same way again and you will find the driver

Go to your Device Manager (right click Computer - select Manage)

Plug in the scanner so you can see it pop up in the Device Manager

Right click it, Update / Install driver

Select Browse my computer for driver then Let me pick from a list of drivers, just select 'All' then click OK

Select Have Disk then Browse and select the CNQL60.INF file inside the SetupSG folder.

It will say that it isnt the correct driver and may not work..... but its lying ;)

~ CanoScan Toolbox ~

If you do not install this it won't work.

I use version 4.9 which can be found here
If you get the "Unable to select TWAIN source" error then try version 4.5

Install was the CanoScan Toolbox, it will ask you to reboot, do so and you're done

Just thought id make this a bit clearer.

Such a good scanner this one, so glad my friend gave it to me after he couldn't get it to work all those years ago on Vista 64!

Cheers Andy hehehe

Canon, you should be ashamed of yourselves, you know damn well that this printer works perfectly on 64bit!!

i felt obliged to subscribe just so i could congratulate you for your effort ;)

doesn't just work, the software is better than the version i had been using on xp :geek:

between this and the chaintech soundcard porting through the wolfson dacs i have overcome 2 major impediments discouraging me from "upgrading" to win 7 for quite some time

a severe pox upon canon for knackering their own hardware by pretending they don't have a solution; it's a pity they make quite nice equipment, or i could shun them completely

three cheers for scoutfu !!!

my sincere thanks :D

^ What he said.

I'm a graphic designer (who uses a PC!!! OMG!!!) and I've been living without my scanner since I (finally) upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit from XP a few months ago. I read the "official" word from Canon that the scanner was "simply not compatible" so I didn't bother looking for a workaround.

I was pulling out an old XP machine to install my scanner thinking to myself "It's 2010. I have a phone that knows where items are in the grocery store and a fridge that can tell me when it needs a new water filter in 5 languages... why on earth can't someone make my scanner work with my computer..?"

Well someone did. You. So thanks man. I owe you. Need some business card design?

Hello there,

I have Windows Vista 64 bit and I'm trying to follow your directions for using my canoscan lide 35, but what if you no longer have the installation disk? I tried following, but I couldn't find the SetupSG folder and I'm wondering if it's because I don't have the disk. Are there any other alternatives if you don't have the disk?

Thank you and I appreciate your help!

I never had the disk as this scanner was given to me because my friend could not get it to install on Vista 64 and had bought a new one.

I think you may not have followed the Winrar instructions properly. If you use the self extractor then figuring out where it extracts the folder is a pain.

Use Winrar, right click the and select Extract to lide60vst6411111a_64en\

Make sure you use the Extract to option so the folder will appear in the folder you are currently browsing. Then inside that, or the next folder you should find SetupSG

Thanks for your response. I found the file, but it says that there's nothing in there. I tried extracting it again to the folder, but when I try to finish the process it just says that there's nothing there to open.

For me and my Windows 7 Ultimate x64, it only half way works. True: if you follow the above instrustions of the orignal poster you will be able to install a driver for a Canoscan Lide60. But will it work with an Lide35? No. Not only will the Canon scanning software be expecting to use an Lide60 and therefore won't work, it also cannot be used in other programs that scan. Photoshop for example. I wish this was a solution. But it appears the only thing for me to do is to buy a 64bit campatible scanner

Why would i title the post 'Canoscan LiDE 35 Windows 7 64bit driver' if it was for the Canoscan LiDE 60 :sarc:

I have a LiDE 35 working with the LiDE 60 driver, using Windows 7 '64bit'

What you're saying is that you can't get it working with Photoshop .... erm so maybe your problem is.... 'Photoshop' ?

If you use the toolbox software, you can set it up to output the file to Photoshop, i used to do this myself!

just my 2c worth - mine is still going strong here 6 months after my original post of thanks

it does work with a lide 35; you may not be able to get it to do so, but i reiterate, it DOES work... so perhaps you need to re-visit your install

I have just joined this forum. I cant thank you enough for this thread on the Lide 35. Got my scanner working and very grateful for the clear directions given.
Now I would dearly love to get my HP scanner 3500c working which HP say there are no drivers for Win7-64. Can you prove them wrong?

Without owning one it would be rather tricky to know whether this would work. You could try this Vista x64 driver with a similar method as in my first post.

Good Luck, any problems you know where i am ;)

after many hours of researching and troubleshooting, no success

Hi,
I have probably spent 10 hours or more to troubleshoot this, but the scanner just wouldn't cooperate...

Here is my environment:
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Canoscan Lide30
Lide60 x64 driver
Toolbox 4.9.3.2

What I have tried:
installed x64 Lide60 driver - successful
added c:\windows\Twain_32\CNQL60 in PATH envronmental variable
countless installing and uninstalling of the driver and Toolbox
different USB ports
Other scanner management software (some freeware and Windows Fax & Scanner)

Error messages from Toolbox:
The action cannot be completed because the other program is busy.
Cannot communicate with scanner.
Unable to open TWAIN source.

Please, please, help. I don't know what else to do.

There was a guy that said, switched the scanner to "unlocked" worked, but I don't know what he meant. I tried the switch on the back of the scanner, but no good.

From Windows Fax and Scanner, I get "no scanners were detected" though it is recognized correctly in Device Manager. It says, "This device is working properly."

From Scanners and Cameras, the scanner is recognized, but the status is 'unavailable' in its property.

For some reason, it did not work on my virtual W2K on vmware player, so I need to get it working on Windows7.

Thank you so much in advance
