Have IE 8, want to go back to IE 7 - possible?

Hi all - if this is better off in another dept., please feel free to move.

I recently bulit a W7 Ult 64-bit machine, and it came w/IE8. I was hoping to go back to IE7 - I have heard that this is not possible - true or false?

Should I just d/l and run the IE 7 .exe, or will anything get screwed up that way?

In Control Panel, Programs and Features, Turn Windows Features On and Off, there's a checkbox for IE8. So, it looks like it can be disabled.

But, don't know if you can then install IE7 in its place.

I did the run IE7 in IE8 thing, but it's basically the same.

A few things - one of them being the search (ctrl+F) I absolutely HATE the way that is implemented.

Plus, I can not play certain videos in IE8 that I can in 7. Not sure why....

How about some examples of the videos? 99 times out of 100, that will be a codec problem, and not the actual browser.

There are also other browsers available, If you don't want to use IE8.

I'll admit there may be a lot to complain about, but the find dialog (ctrl+F) does exactly what it's supposed to...lets you find items on the page that match what you type. So I wonder what you want it to do.

Nah, ctrl+f, tho it does do what it should, was much better functionality wise before in ie7. And then there's the google image search - yuck!

It might be possible, but I most certainly would not recommend it. Unless you absolutely must use IE, a different browser is probably your best bet (and one with some sort of IETab functionality as well just in case would be a plus). You can even "disable" IE8 from running if you want to go that far with the command "dism /online /Disable-Feature /FeatureName:Internet-Explorer-Optional-amd64 (for 64bit Windows 7 - replace the "amd64" string with "x86" in the command if you're running a 32bit Windows 7 install).

Once you do that and reboot, IE is effectively disabled (only webbrowser control apps that consume mshtml will work - IE itself will not).
