Windows 7 RC NIS/Norton 360 compatible builds available

We have made available a beta pre-release version of Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton 360 3.0 for you to test with the latest Release Candidate (RC) of Windows 7. You can download the Windows 7 compatible builds of Norton Internet Security and Norton 360 by visiting this page:

On this page, you can choose which Norton product you prefer to test. These new Windows 7 Compatible builds will not contain any new or enhanced features. These builds will ONLY focus on Windows 7 compatibility.

For this build, activation is not available. We will refresh this build in a few days, and have activation keys available for the refreshed build. However, there is no activation available this initial Public Beta build. I apologize for this inconvenience, however you will have 7 days to test this build before it expires.

I renewed my Norton subscription for 2 years right before I started using Windows 7, and it rapidly became unusable when they started updating it (Norton), but worked at first.

Then I found that NOD32 had come a long way, and its trials worked like a dream.

And now Norton is finally doing betas that expire in 7-14 day periods and look to require multiple reinstalls, etc.

And now I have a wasted Norton subscription since I'm thinkin' it's simply time to settle in on the ESET/NOD32 stuff if this is the way it's going to go....

Why is so?

Btw, on Vista x86 I used Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and on Win7 x64 it doesn't seem to work properly. From time to time internet connection freezes or the whole computer stops working. So I was wondering to give Norton a try ....

I chose avast! over AVG because I noticed it was slowing my system down. Now if you choose Norton, boy oh boy will there be a noticeable difference in CPU usage.

I use Avira AntiVir Premium and it's a great AV with unmatched detection rates. It's lightning fast and it works flawlessly on se7en, btw.

Avast and Arira are your safe bets now. I agree with Decca. Norton is to kept far away.

I have Norton Internet Security 2009 installed on two PCs with both Vista & XP and i see no difference in CPU or memory usage between them and for instance Bitdefender or any other i've tried before. Shame is only that Norton is late with adapting their products for Seven. On Seven i use NOD32(and it's very good) just because they're late.
I don't know about commercial products from AVG or Avira ,but their freeware is at least said crap!!

Recommend anybody that wants a good, working Internet Security for Win 7. ESET SS 4.0.424. I had a problem with v 4.0.417 staying activated on AV and AS. V 4.0.424 has worked perfect with no hitch, also recommend setting the FW to interactive.

I cannot tell you the amount of computers that I have formatted just because Norton is on their computer. Somehow these user get it in their head that Norton is the best and they'll stick with that bloated piece of crap.

When I finally do convice them to remove it, it screws up thier computer beyond fixing. Obviously I have told them to stop doing that, but when I see brand new computers with it, I urge them to format it before they start using thier new computer.

Why format when Symantec-Nortons has a FREE program to totally clean. which removes evertything... (RNAV). much faster and 100% effective.
also almost ever program maker has a "how to clean" for there product, if you can not find, then use a 3rd party "total clean-remove" . I have used these programs since Win95 and they still work on Win7-7106.

FORMAT is a very nasty word.

I agree lots of trial bloated crap.
That is why a good 3rd party complete uninstaller and a good reg cleaner and a must for a computer tech (anybody) to have. Next is a very good and FAST defrag program. I carry all my (needed items) on a flash drive .

Vista Manager works very well, for Vista and Win7
XP Manager for XP
REGCURE works very well,
RegVac works very well,
AusLogics BoostSpeed works well - it also removes all passwords.
and has a nice JUNk cleaner also.
