alright, i just tested windows 64bit on my macbook and i must say it looks very promising(much better than the vista running on my desktop). i will try to make it simple, hope you guys can provide me a solution.. :D

I have 3HDD on my desktop, HDD(1), have four partition and my windows vista is installed into one of them. HDD(2) have another 4 partition, and the last HDD(3) have 1 partition. i got a picture, if you don't understand what i mean.

from what i found, i know that it's better to have a fresh install of windows 7 and probably impossible to upgrade from vista. so my question, is it possible for me to fresh install windows 7 on HDD(1) without affecting rest of the partition on HDD(1)?? or is it possible to upgrade from vista? or what about installing windows 7 on HDD(3)?

ultimately, can i just format HDD(1)'s C; drive and install windows 7 and still look at files on HDD[1]'s partition(I; J; and K; Drive). what about other HDDs?? can i view my older files on them as well?? thank you very much for helping.

Windows installer will only affect the partition you choose to install it on.

Hi tongteh,I'd put it on your E harddrive,as it would seem to be the one with the least amount of hassle connected to it,imo.

Youd need to do a clean install from 32-bit to 64-bit as you cant upgrade. So make sure any files you want to keep are backed up.

Yes you can and yes other drives should be useable. You will need to backup personal files before formatting.

Ok,

If you format C: and install 7 you will be able to view all files on any other partition regardless of whether they where created within a 32bit or 64bit install.

You will have to format that partition as you can not upgrade from 32bit to 64bit.
I know you know this but i thought the last poster was a bit confusing to people that don't find it as easy as him to understand...

*Edit*

Just to do the best thing possible you should move all your files and documents etc to one of your other partitions so you can do a format during the fresh install.

And don't worry about the formatting as it will only touch the partition that you point the installer at. All your other partitions will remain intact and 100% usable.

I hope this clears things up for you :)

My question is WHY do you not simply DUAL Boot or even TRIPLE boot and have both Vista (x86) and Win7(x86) and Win7 (x64).?
I have Vista SP2 on C: amd Win7 on L:
you can open MSCONFIG to switch to your preference of BOOT Drive. or use the arror up/down key to change... when you boot if you dual boot.

Yes, it depends on how your sources/cversion.ini is set if to allow you to upgrade from Vista to Win7 or not to upgrade.

I was confusing ? :o

Agree why not keep vista intact. If in fact you do have trouble it will be thare as an allternitive os? If you format c then bye bye vista.

you should change your ESET firewall to "interactive" , The only version of ESET SS I had any problems with was 4.0.417... 4.0.424 solved that problem.

I can;t fix my connection drop!! its really annoying now.. :(
