The fastest selling operating system in history is now being used by almost twice as many customers than its predecessor.

According to statistics share by Janco, Windows 7 has grown to a massive 17.39% of the OS market. Meanwhile, the market share of Windows Vista has been falling with no signs of stopping.

The successor of Windows XP is now down to just 10.78% of the platform market, with Windows 7 being the main architect of Vista’s market share erosion.

At the same time, Janco revealed that Windows 7 has also been enjoying an acceptance Rate that is approximately twice that of Vista.

At the end of June 2010, Microsoft noted that it had sold in excess of 175 million licenses of Windows 7, and that the operating system was selling at a rate of more than 7 copies per seconds.

June was also the month in which by Microsoft’s own estimates Windows 7 surpassed Vista in terms of market share, for the first time since the platform’s GA.

I just very recently made the move from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium and I honestly love it. Got a lot to learn but jump lists alone was worth the move. I agree that Vista will continue its freefall, anyone I know that moved from Vista to Windows 7 wonder why they took so long to take the plunge.

Loving this Windows 7 forum as well, everything I want to know seems to be easy to track down here. :)

This may seem like a stupid question but ... why?? Every since switching to Win 7, trying to work on a Vista computer inflicts me with severe pain...

Hell, I know two people who refuses to move from Vista.
One says that she loves Vista best. The other says that he doesn't have enough money to afford it and also say that he was OK with Vista.

Strange, eh?

EDIT

Reaction to the news : I'm not surprised at all although Win Vista is pretty good OS if you have what it needs.

My Vista computer is less than 2 years old.
It was purchased new with top specifications needed to satisfactorily run Vista.
Has served me well, never had any problems, never let me down.
Why wouldn't I continue to use it?

I fully understand why you would still want to use that system, I just find it odd that you wouldn't upgrade said system to Win 7, but then I find it odd that so many still insist on XP, so... I guess it's just personal preference.

I think that Microsoft should take it as a wake up call that Vista was so bad! If they think that the sales figures are a good thing then they are mistaken, the reason 7 has sold so well is because Vista was so bad!

I will go one better that 7 will still be around for a long time just like XP because people will be scared of switching to 8, or will just not want too.

7 is the best , Visa is the worst and XP is still alive :D

There is nothing wrong with Vista, What problems did you encounter when using Vista?

I used it for years, right after SP1, it's a great OS.

Vista's only problem is that it uses the system resources so heavily resulting in a very low performance compared to Win 7 . The most noticeable slowness of Vista is at the start up time

I suggest you try using Win 7 for sometime to get to realize what is really wrong with Vista . You know , If I was asked to choose XP or Vista , I'd immediately choose XP because it's much lighter and has better performance than Vista and of course Win 7 stays at the top ! :geek:

PS : You will only feel your PC's power only when using XP or Win 7 not the resources eater monster ( i.e :Vista ) :p

Oh , Did I happen to mention the fact that Vista gets slower and slower by time especially if you're a computer geek who always installs and uninstalls programs . Also after few weeks of a fresh Vista install it'll start hanging and crashing and displaying BSOD !

Please don't misunderstand me and think that I am Anti-Vista user but I just think it's a failed OS for the pre-mentioned facts that every ex-Vista user know about ;)

Hi there
It's not surprising really that W7 has overtaken VISTA.

VISTA was introduced FAR too early on inadequate hardware and XP compatability with a lot of programs was poor.

W7 X-86 actually runs quite a few XP programs that W7 X-64 won't handle such as older hardware devices while if you really only need a driver for say an old scanner you can always run an XP virtual Machine on W7 X-64 if you want to run the 64 bit OS.

Incidentally W7 runs quite nicely on some REALLY OLD hardware -- Even the thought of running VISTA on some of that stuff would probably cause the hardware to fail before you even attempted to boot the OS.

VISTA after a service pack or two came out TOGETHER WITH VASTLY SUPERIOR HARDWARE made it a passable OS -- but now lets move on as it's history.

XP will still be around for a while yet since there is still a lot of legacy hardware which will NEVER get updated drivers --for such simple reasons the manufacturers no longer exist. However if the hardware is still perfectly serviceable then there is no reason to junk it.

Cheers
jimbo

I could not have said it better. I am not a vista fan but we should at least give it a fair shake. Many, many users are still using it with no problems and win 7 and vista are build on similar code.

I can see why she would not choose to upgrade. Vista is running smoothly and does everything she needs. That is the same reason so many will not switch from XP. However, those XP folks upgraded their systems, I think they would be very pleased with Win 7 after they got through the learning curve.

Of course I'm happy with this news. It's also partly understandable as new computers are shipping with Win 7, Win XP machines are sometimes underpowered for the upgrade and hardware fades with age, and Vista machines are more likely for upgrading.

This was my number ONE reason for moving to Windows 7. My supposedly fast i7 920 computer was taking close to 3 minutes to boot up in the morning with Vista x64, and was that way since day 1. Now with W7, my boot times have gone from 180 seconds down to 40 seconds, sometimes less. Not to mention Firefox opens in less than a second from a cold start in W7, with Vista it took at least 5-10 seconds...and then finally less after it had already been opened. I have other examples of improvement as well but those two things alone made me instantly fall in love with Windows 7 and I am SO glad I made the switch.
