Desktop Icon Deletion/Edit Issue - Like Everyone Else It Would Seem

Hey guys, I'm really sorry to create yet another thread on this issue but I have not found a single solution that's worked yet.

I just tonight installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 onto my system.

Right away I noticed the issue.

Icons on the desktop won't delete or won't show changes such as renaming right away.

I have to refresh the desktop for the changes to take effect.

There seems to be a million threads about this and ye,t like I said, I can't find the solution anywhere.

Please! Anyone? Even just link me to an existing thread that has the fix for this extremely annoying problem.

I've tried restarting, I've installed all the current updates... nothing!

Please... anyone?

This should work
Click on Start at the lower left
Type the word regedit in the search box and hit enter
Right click HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and click Find
Type dontrefresh in the search box and then hit enter
You will see DontRefresh, right click it to change the settings, set it to 0
Boot your computer. It should be set properly.
Be sure to make a system restore point first, to restore registry if necessary.

Here's the big problem I found with that solution...

May I suggest that you try again. It is possible that the desktop will not work as it should, but the procedure can be done.
Try it from an administrators account

Tried numerous times. Only one account on this computer... I'm assuming I don't have to go in and manually say I'm the administrator of one account.. do I?

Might it potentially be that the file is hidden? Might I have to do something like in XP and go into folder properties and "Show Hidden Files And Extensions"??

... otherwise dontrefresh file is 100% not there...

I just did it on my computer. You have to wait a while after you type dontrefresh the first time..Im not even in an administrator account

I wait until it shows a windows that says "Finished searching through the registry."

... and there's nothing that shows up.

Try it this way. Im sure this will work
Go to search
Type cmd
Right click run as adminstrator
then type regedit

Follow the previous post.

I do not know why you cannot find it. I just did it. Im on 7, too.

Sorry? Typing cmd brings up the command prompt and there is no "right click" option that says Run As Administrator.

Also, I'm 100% certain I'm the Admin... it clearly says so in the users menu...

... so, that's not the problem.

I've Googled searched and it seems others don't have the dontrefresh file either.

It's simply not there... so, where do we go from here?

That doesn't help those of us who don't have the dontrefresh file...

... it's not a matter of "Ya, you guys just aren't searching correctly" ... no, we don't have the file is all...

... I've searched six ways from Sunday and it's not there.

So, what do we do?
