I am running Vista basic and Win7 ultimate on my pc and i was just wonder how can i reinstall win7 while keeping vista and not changing anything on my C: drive ( which vista is in ) while just getting rid of win7 and putting a new win7 over that same hard drive ( hard drive D: ) . Is there any way of doing this and without causing any problems to vista, my pc and not having conflict's ?
If so can you please tell me how to do it step by step?
Thanks i advance.

Run your Windows 7 dvd in vista. Now, while installing, do it in d drive, and format the drive during installation (step 8 of http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html ).

I hope the vista boot menu will be automatically added up in the mbr while the installation is completed :)

EDIT : provided your Win 7 is not of a lower bitrate than vista .

Do you have separate HD's?

Are they configured in a Windows-managed Dual Boot menu, or do you choose which HD to boot using the BIOS boot order or BIOS Boot Menu shortcut key?

Do you want Win7 to configure a Windows-managed Dual Boot during install so that you have a Dual Boot menu to choose when you start computer? This makes Win7 HD dependent upon Vista in order to boot. In order to achieve this you would leave Vista HD plugged in during Win7 install to separate HD.

Or would you rather have both HD's be independently bootable so either can come and go as you please, in which case you would leave Vista HD unplugged during install then afterward boot it using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key?

Feel free to ask any questions to help make your decision. If you will post back a screenshot of your full Disk Management drive map, we can confirm that the options given will work for you as stated based on how it is configured now. Use the Snippping Tool in Start menu, attach using Paper Clip in Reply box.

@Arc, if he installs Windows 7 like that he will over-write Vista and that's NOT what he wants to do.

Set the BIOS boot priority to boot first from the Optical Disk Drive (ODD) and boot the Windows 7 install disk and install it right back to the same partition it was on to start with, isn't that what you want; that way, as you only have 1 HDD Windows 7 will configure the boot menu to include Vista and you will be presented with a Windows boot menu at system startup, that's what you have now, right?

Hi Ted !
I told him to install win 7 in D drive, whereas Vista is installed in C drive
not changing anything on my C: drive ( which vista is in ) while just getting rid of win7 and putting a new win7 over that same hard drive ( hard drive D: ) . Is there any way of doing this and without
Is it really overwrite Vista in C drive, if 7 is installed in D drive ?

Make sure you have all of your files first as there are copies of them in windows.old in case you forgot to save some.
