Time for an upgrade I guess!

Hello every one, I am looking for some help on upgrading my computer, I don't know what I should look into in upgrading but I think I need to get some speakers with a sub and I need to upgrade my motherboard, processor, graphics card, Case and a new monitor. And I would also like to upgrade to a 64 bit operating system. Here are my specifications of my computer.

Processor: Quad Core 6600
Motherboard: PQ5 PRO
Graphics card: GTX 260
Monitor:None using a tv
Case:NXZT HUSH or however you spell it
Power Supply: OCZ StealthxStream 600watt
RAM: 6 gigs of Ram, I think I may take out the 2 gig that is kingston I think it may be bottle necking my ram as well.
Operating system: Windows 7 Home 32 bit

And recommend me some thermal paste as well if that's not too much trouble.

Also, it would help if we knew what your computer was to be used for. Are you a big gamer? Multimedia nut? Just do the web and email?

Why not upgrade to mobo that supports ddr3-1600 and i9 processor?

Give us at least a high and a low end of what you're willing (and able) to spend, along with an idea of which matters most between cost and performance.

As a starting point, what games do you anticipate wanting to run? Are you looking for a build to last you several years, or is this going to be the starting point of a work in progress?

The reason I ask is, if money is tight now and you don't play all the latest DirectX 11 games, a cheaper system with onboard video might get you going. We could recommend something with room to add on a great video card down the road for more demanding games. If you've already got Crysis 2 in your sights it might be better to load your new rig up now.

For gaming, why not just upgrade the GPU and leave it at that?

I would thing 4GB RAm and a Q6600 should be good for a bit longer.



Maybe grab a better cooler & OC it a bit. (maybe 3.0Ghz)



Most Games are more GPU dependant. The majority of the ones that are more CPU, will use use 4 cores.

Its still got some life left in it!

That's really kinda like saying "I'm looking to buy a car, to be used for drifting/rally driving/drag racing/nascar and I don't know how much I have to spend, can you recommend some parts to build it with?
Building a well balanced pc to suit someone's requirements is often only limited to their budget, if you can give us a bit more of an idea of what you were thinking of spending, or how much you might be looking at throwing at it, I'm sure you'd get a lot more responses

Well right now my most important things I am looking into is a new case because my case is scratched and dented to hell.. and probably a monitor and some speakers,

I was thinking of upgrading to a GTX 460 but I was not sure if my Motherboard supported it, and I know that my 6600 is not a great processor..

This is a pretty good Canadian online store. About as close to Newegg with avalible components. I like the Coolermaster Half X case.

I also like the GTX460 GPU.
As far as your current CPU visit some of the Overcloking forums and you'll find the Q6600 especialy the GO stepping to do ectremely well.
One of the easiest preformace gains would to get an SSD for you OP system. Their is still some good life left in some of your components it's just a matter of how much you want to spend. That Coolermaster case looks great! I've used a few of their models for builds and their build quality has been good with all of them. That site looks like it has pretty reasonable pricing too!

My thermal paste of choice has been Arctic Silver 5 for years

Arctic silver is good.

MX-2 is really good as well. Its the one Ive been using last few builds & Like it better myself.

But both are very good though.
