Windows 7 RC NIS/Norton 360 compatible builds available

Somehow these user get it in their head that Norton is the best and they'll stick with that bloated piece of crap.

And some users get in there head that since some norton products were bloated in the past that they continue to be bloated to this day.

This...I will NEVER use Norton again even they package a free PC with their software. One call to their customer support to report one of the wicked viruses I have ever seen (it actually uninstalled Norton) and they were not even interested in the information I wanted to provide them with. Then add the fact their customer is outsourced and I could barely undertsand what he was saying and vice versa.

Their product is very intrusive on your system and is a resource hog...go with Kaspersky and you will be extremely happy.

Is this post 3 years old are are you just talking about when it was relevant.Or did you mis-type and mean Kaspersky. Norton is just about the lightest security system there is nowadays and only Nod can compare with theVERY LITTLE resources it uses.

At last... i couldnt have put it better my self...My Uncles friends, brothers,budgie used it 2 years ago, so therefore i can post all over the place saying Norton Is crap. {Thats sarcasm, for all you Kaspersky users that dont realise your favorite product is now poor at detection and comparatively bloated compared to Norton 2009}

Norton 2009 internet security suite takes the minimum resources on memory, was personally using it but then it stopped working correctly on the later versions of Windows 7 so I shifted over to AVG but still like Norton... Those who say Norton is bloated they should take another look towards the product...

I uninstall with Youruninstaller 2008. It is very fast and cleans everything after.

Norton 2009 internet security suite takes the minimum resources on memory, was personally using it but then it stopped working correctly on the later versions of Windows 7 so I shifted over to AVG but still like Norton... Those who say Norton is bloated they should take another towards the product...

On Tuesday, 5/5/09, I upgraded my power supply and installed 8GB of Corsair DDR2 6500 800MHz memory. I then booted my system from the freshly made ISO DVD of Windows 7, 7100 x64. After installation was complete, I first checked to make sure all memory was recognized and then Device Manager and to my surprise everything on my system was recognized with all drivers installed, including my HP C4280 all-in-one printer which I used to print out the HomeGroup Password. I then installed NIS 2009 version 16.0.0.125 (58.5 MB dated 9/5/2008 11:43 PM) from a USB drive where I had the download saved and have had no problems with the installation or the program. Live Updates and all other phases of the program are working just as they did in Vista.
I tried the same with my Gateway laptop using the 32 bit version of Windows 7 and after installation when I double clicked the NIS icon on the desktop I received the message about compatability issues, but when I checked the notification area and clicked on the NIS icon it worked fine and was running already, so I removed the desktop icon and now use the one in the taskbar notification area.
I am not sure if the difference between the 32 and 64 bit Windows 7 had anything to do with the installations of NIS 2009 or not, but I will not complain because I still have 250+ days of subscription left.

Hell I have been a tad pissed off with Norton in the past myself and a tad pissed off with one minute it working on Win7 then not, but it is very unfair to say its bloat. You clearly have not used for a long time.
The older versions of Norton upto 2008 were a problem for speed and size but not anymore, infact last year was voted one of the fastes antivirus engines.

i will be giving this a go since i was given a years subscription for testing the older versions.

I've never liked Norton, and my taste hasn't changed, but to be fair I am giving them all a go. At the moment I have the latest Norton trial (only 2 weeks tight gits), and this attachment is what Windows Health Check tells me:

I will be having a go at all the trials, so will post any problems up here.

I too was sick of new pc's with Norton bloatware, but a good friend told me that gone are the days of Norton taking over your resources. on his advice i gave it a go, and havent looked back. i installed NIS 2009 back in November 08, and i am still using it now. it is the least intrusive Intrernet security i have ever used, it takes seconds to configure, and is not intrusive in anyway, in fact i dont even need to schedule a scan as it does it itself when the PC is idle.

It has been inconsistent in working with win 7 x86 dependant on which build it was, but i am using NIS 2009 on build 7100 x64, and it works perfectly. At the moment it is fluctuating between 0% & 1% cpu usage, and whilst scanning, it is between 7% & 35%, but as i said it scans automatically during idle time, so i never notice any usage. It installs in under 2 minutes, and a full scan with over 500,000 items scanned takes around 10 minutes, if you choose to scan yourself that is.

seriously, things have changed dramatically with Norton, and i cant speak highly enough of it. i never thought i would ever be saying that that a few years ago. If you are basing your opinion on Norton of the past, then i thoroughly recommend trying out the new versions, you will be surprised IMO.

Be careful..I dont think you are allowed to say anything positive about Norton on these forums.The experts(usually Kaspersky users, who quote all the false positives their baby finds) take offence.they havent realised yet that their favoured product is now actually the resource hog compared with recent Norton. I do obviously exclude Nod/Eset users from this as theirs is the only product that can match Norton for detection and resource usage.

Since the release of Norton 360, it has progressively used less and lass CPU and RAM, whilst still maintaining the high detection and removal rate. I'd give it a go, it's worth it.
