Singularity - AWESOME.....

I keep telling people that but they don't believe :D

I played through it twice already. It really is a good game :thumbsup:

I know....I'm taking it slow with this game, I have the tendancy to rush through a game but this is worth playing slowly....
AWESOME GFXs
Very good story line
...and man ...THE GUNS...they're awesome...especially the TMD (time manipulation device)

10/10

Finished Mafia 2. Now on to Just Cause 2.

Just Cause 2 is the antithesis to Mafia 2 in regards to free roaming.

I've clocked about 100 hours and have barely done any of the main story line. It has a few shortcomings, but overall it's an enjoyable game. Looks great with Eyefinity too.

And yeah, Mafia 2 is a good game that could have been a great game, had they not obviously cut so much out of it. It makes you wonder if the content was cut just to make more money from DLC content, or whether they had their fingers up their bums for the last seven years

Runs damn well too - In game settings maxxed @ 1920x1200 with APEX on medium. It bogs down a little in heavy gunfights because of the physx+no nvidia card, but not enough to warrant turning it off.

It is a good game. It felt very Bioshock-ish in some ways though.

Although, the Russian aspect didn't feel Russian enough. It felt like an alternative CCCP where the Russians weren't actually Russian.

The texture streaming bug was a minor PITA too.

The texture streaming bug was a minor PITA too.

Game looked much better the second time around with this - Playwrite: Singularity automated streaming texture patch ;)

There's also the official patch addressing the issue as well - Download Singularity Patch 1.1 - This is the latest patch for the game Singularity - Softpedia.

Bottom line... Streaming issues gone

Although, the Russian aspect didn't feel Russian enough. It felt like an alternative CCCP where the Russians weren't actually Russian.

Well... we are talking time manipulation, ergo changing the course of history so.... :D

Cool - I'll have to replay with that streaming fix.

As for changing the course of history, well, the game world Russians were like that before any time manipulation.

So I'm going to have to go with 'a conscious decision for easy accessibility for a target demographic' than time manipulation :p

It's a pity though, because realistically, it did hurt the atmosphere of the games setting.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R series was a little too Russian and inaccessible, but Metro 2033 did a pretty good job of capturing the atmosphere of the locale whilst retaining accessibility.

I tried S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Shadow of Chernobyl but never finished it because of.... bugs! That game definitely gets my vote for buggiest game I've ever played

There was a HUGE thread over at Rage3d about it, and it was like 50/50 for those who liked it against those who hated it because of bugs.

Anyways when I finish Dragon Age I'll give Metro a try.

Mafia II is the order of the day. I've only had it a couple of days and have completed it twice. It has a very short storey and I feel ripped off @ £40. Most of the game is took up with video cuts.

Good game play, good graphics, good storey but very very short.

I'm new to the gaming scene. I've got a steam account and with that a free game (Alien Swarm). Now I'm hooked. Maybe I'll see some of you online. I never knew how much fun this could be....only down side is having to get used to using keyboard and mouse instead of a controller.....freaking addictive.

Think the one that's being released in 5 days will cost $9.99, so it isn't *too* bad, but still more than I think it's worth. Especially when all the DLC is already in the game, what we download just "enables" it so to speak. I heard there's a mod that enables it already somewhat, but is rather buggy.

Oh yeah, S.O.C was a nightmare to begin with bug wise. It improved a fair bit with the later patches. I persevered because it was different and had a lot of atmosphere - but it had to keep getting shelved until it was patched.

Clear Sky fared a little better out of the box, but that too was still damn buggy.

Call of Pripyat - I don't know tbh. I probably played it for about an hour or so and haven't touched it since. It's one of those 'maybe get around to it one day' games.

Metro is a hell of a lot more polished.

Think the one that's being released in 5 days will cost $9.99, so it isn't *too* bad, but still more than I think it's worth. Especially when all the DLC is already in the game, what we download just "enables" it so to speak.

It wouldn't be too bad if they sold the game at half price, because they are essentially selling a half a game. But to charge full price and then make you pay extra for what is already there is just gouging.

I paid £25 pre-order for mine off Play.com, which I don't mind paying for a game. Steam has the normal game, and the collector's edition of Mafia 2 at 25% off currently, so it's £30 for Mafia 2, and £40 for the collector's edition. Normally it would be £10 more for both editions, which is way too much. Especially when the DLC isn't going to be free.
