Starting up and shutting down extremely slow

Alright, it has come to this. For the past few weeks, my computer has been very slow (2-5 minutes) on both booting up and shutting down. I've turned everything off of msconfig, uninstalled things, disabled services... I'm not dual booting. Any further tips for startup/shutdown?

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

Make sure you have no Viruses, they can slow your computer down a LOT.
Do a scan with Malwarebytes, to see if anything comes up.

Also something to look into is junk files on your system and spyware, adware, malware. These will most definitely slow your system down. Also defrag your hard drive as well and clean up registry.

You have checked a lot. Once you have done as zigzag3143 has recommended. If it was my computer I would check for spyware and malware. I use my antivirus, Malware Anti Malware, and Super Anti Spyware. Running these programs should be done now and again anyway. It can't hurt but it might help. Windows 7 has a built in disc cleanup tool and defragger that I also use. I would make sure I look for critical errors first like zigzag3143 has posted, don't want to clean anything out before I make a note of what was found.

Besides googling the repeat errors in Event Viewer>Admin view, check also the Performance log on Advanced Tools page accessed by clicking through WEI score at Computer>Properties. Check for cued issues at top of Tools page and Generate a System Health Report.

I had several errors, mostly from games.

I keep my system fairly clean, I run system checks etc pretty much daily, uninstall unused things, get rid of any kind of spyware etc. I check the msconfig setup, and check for unused services.

My WEI is 7.3, 7.5, 7.3, 7.3, 5.5, so no problems there.
