Network Printing still unsuccessful

I have Win7 to the point now where I can access computers on our network but they cannot access the Win7 computer. Our XP PC sporadically can see our Win7 computer but that's all, it doesn't see the network printer connected to it. I've named and renamed the printer, added XP drivers to Win7 and I'm completely baffled at this point. (I have the firewall off on the Win7 PC). So far I'm not thrilled with win7 and hope they don't attempt to release it anytime in the near future, my computers and network has always setup easily and ran flawless with XP and Vista but with Win7 it's been a battle all the way.

im using a network printer and had some trouble with the setup disc automaticly finding my printer.
it finally worked by printing out the ip settings page and manually entering the settings
also i have all my ip's manually configured for all the pcs on my netwok
everything seems to be running flawlessly now
hope this helps

Is your network printer connected to the Win7 computer or to a router with network printer input? Mine is connected to the Win7 computer and is set as a network printer with all sharing allowed. If putting the ip address into the other computers on the network so they can use the printer that's fine.. Did you find the ip address for Win7 and put it in the other computers?? (where did you find it also)
Before I start using Windows 7 as my main OS I MUST have all other computers on the Network the ability to print at will...

yes my network is setup through my router
my ip settings for my computers are manually configured
it seemed dhcp was causing ip conflicts

my router (lynksys befsr41) has no printer input its just plugged into one of the ethernet ports as if it was another machine
and is fully accessable from the windows 7 machine and another 2 vista machines
but i had to configure each machine manually to see the printer
make sure ur firewall isnt blocking it either

on my hp network printer if you turn it on and press the go button for 5 seconds it prints out the network settings
i used the settings from that page to manually configure it
look at your documentation and find out how to print out the settings
or you can try to get the settings by going to your network
right clicking your printer and selecting "view device web page"

i would imagine you can set it up making ur main machine the gateway
but i would seriously recommend spending the 40 dollars on a cheap router
if for nothing else it adds allot of security to your home network and can act like a firewall in a sense
not to mention it makes network config so much easier and more manageable
any way i hope that helps and good luck

We do have two different setups to our printer network. I have a ZyXEL Router(not cheap but very good) unfortunately it does not have a printer input..

Got it....

Finally got the printer to work as the network printer on our XP Laptop and both Vista Notebooks. I totally uninstalled all software for HP printers and removed the printer from our main Windows 7 computer, rebooted and let Win7 again install the drivers I downloaded from HP, made sure the printer was set to share and this time all our laptops saw the printer.. Not sure what exactly what the fix was but I'm glad it's all working now, well I didn't check my daughter's Macbook yet but I'm sure it will see it also. Now I can use Windows 7 as my main OS.
