Need help getting rid of dual boot

Hi, I have windows xp MCE 2005 installed first (so it becomes my primary drive) and then installed Windows 7 Ultimate 7106 on a second partition on the same drive. (XP on C:\ Windows 7 on D:\) After using 7 for a while, I have decided to get rid of XP and just use virtual xp inside 7. I know I cannot just format xp partition since that will damage the boot files. I have read some stuff on how to do this with vista and xp, but I am not sure if windows 7 is different. I think if you blast your xp partition and extend your windows 7 partition, you can boot into the Windows 7 disc and have it run the repair mode. It in theory will fix the boot. It worked for me in a similar situation, but you might make a backup before hand... As a side note I would just blast your xp partition, extend your windows 7 partition, and reinstall windows 7 RC in place of your 7106. I believe the RC build date was 4-21, and the 7106 build was 4-09.

Thank you for the reply! At first I had problems formatting the XP partition under windows 7, then I booted with the Windows 7 dvd and deleted the partition using the setup program. After that I REBOOTED (this is key since the repair won't work if you don't reboot and just go back from the setup menu), and repaired my boot loader. Everything is working now. Hope this will help anyone trying to get rid of a primary OS and join the Winodws 7 family. Thanks again fakeasdf for your help!
