Driver for an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 on a Sony Vaio VGN-BX396XP

Hi There, can anybody help me with a driver that will get my Sony Vaio VGN-BX396XP to run its native 1280 x 800 res in Windows 7 - W7 is telling me that its got a 'Generic Non-PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adaptor, which it hasn't - it has an ATI Mobility Rareon X1600 (with HyperMemory - nice.). I guess it may be a memory issue, so perhaps I need to upgrade the Graphics card or allocate the Graphics Adaptor with more system RAM? Any help much appreciated. Cheers, Simon.

If I search just for the ATI video driver, it sends me to the vendor for this chip. Searching the vendor, I found this:
VAIO : Sony Europe

I do not see video support for Windows 7. There were upgrade drivers for Vista from XP upgrade.

Ace, the Vista driver works...

Many thanks for the help - made me think that the Vista driver might just be compatible! It wouldn't do it without a bit of a struggle though - so I referred back to a forum reply I saw earlier and tried his method as Windows 7 was sure the driver they had supplied was the best option (even though I was looking at a VGA image on a WXGA display). So you have to go around the back door to get the OS to let you make the change - so thanks also to 'Mindless728' (a BMW owner??) on tomsharware .com where I found his instructions to get into the thing done:

6) goto Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management and on the list goto [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]device [COLOR=blue !important]manager[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR]

7) Under Device Manager goto Display Adapters and expand it, right click on the adapter there (should be standard vga display, maybe) and go into properties

8) Click on the driver tab and then the update driver button

9) Click on Browse my computer for [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]driver [COLOR=blue !important]software[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR], then on let me pick from a list of deice drivers, then on the button have disk

10) click on browse, goto C:\ATI\Support\9_3_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF\ and select CH_7682

11) Click on Rdeon X1600 Mobility (should be the only adapter in the file) click next. A promt for windows security will come up click on install driver anyways

So kinda round the houses, and I am probably being a bit dumb - but it works, so many thanks. I have spent way too much time trying to get this done today, so I would guess there are many people in the same boat as me.
