Hi,

Can anybody recommend a free anti-spyware product that has task scheduling. Right now im setting up a pc and it needs to run on a schedule so that no user interaction is required.

So far i have the pc set up so that every thursday this happens:

  • Maintenance message is displayed
  • PC locks
  • PC reboots
  • PC locks
  • A system restore point is created
  • Windows update service started
  • Windows Update runs and installs all updates
  • MSE antivirus does a full system scan
  • PC reboots
  • PC locks
  • Windows update service is stopped
  • IE privacy keeper cleans out trash files
  • Extended Disk cleanup cleans out trash files
  • Tune Up Utilities 1 click maintenance fixes and defrags the registry
  • Tune Up Utilities 1 click maintenance runs again
  • Perfectdisk 11 defrags the hard drive, pagefile etc.
  • PC locks
When the maintenance is complete the pc will shut down automatically.

This way the pc is automatically optimized but id like to find an anti-spware product that could do a quick scan daily.

Thanks

Cheers jav but it needs to be able to detect, remove and run on a schedule.

Cheers jav but it needs to be able to detect, remove and run on a schedule.

First link, by default run every day. Scan time usually 2-5 minutes.
Very high detection rate, one of the few which is up to date with detection of TDSS.

Includes 30 day trial for detection. (you can activate any time you want, if it detects anything. For example I still haven't used mine, as system is still clean)

You can create custom schedule aswell, and turn off daily scan.

Second link Malwarebytes.
free to scan, detect and clean.
High detection rates.
Third link explains how to schedule it.

Ask if you don't like and need other scanners.

Malwarebytes will do nicely. Il start setting it up now.

Thanks :)

MBAM is not suitable as although you can schedule an update and a scan, it wont do them hidden and it wont remove infections automatically so its c***.

Any other suggestions?

Microsoft Security Essesntials

This is the best for setting a schedule. It also works well keeping things out while on line.

Run the malwarebytes manually every week or two for extra protection.

I'm running Avast and the MSE both together. Several others do also. They get along quite well.

Checked manually with the Malwarebytes yesterday for the first time and found nothing.
I won't run it again for a week or two.

Im already running Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) on this pc. I have it set to scan a full scan once a week. That covers virus protection but what i need is a dedicated spyware remover to run daily.

This is not for my pc as i dont use anti-viruses, anti-spyware etc this is for a pc that is used by multiple people all of whom are not computer savvy.

Im setting it up so that the pc requires no user interaction at all. Everything is done on a thursday when the pc is on but not in use and everything is done hidden so you dont even see it. This means they can use it for whatever they want and they dont have to be bothered with updates, defrags, cleaning junk files or optimizing the pc as thats already taken care off.

Try Emsisoft Anti-Malware - Best protection against Viruses, Trojan Horses, Spyware, Worms, Dialers, Adware, Keyloggers and Rootkits
High detection rates (uses 2 engines: Emsisoft anti-malware+Ikarus AV)
But may produce some false positives

Cant remember about scheduled.

If you want to schedule it, you probably good to go with: Emsisoft Commandline Scanner

The same program but only on-demand and only Commandline Scanner.
That page gives you examples for commands.

For example:
Code:
/q=[folder], /quarantine=[folder]
Put detected malware in quarantine at once during the scan. The quarantine folder can be specified. Detected objects are saved and encrypted there so that they cannot do any more harm.
Code:
/f=[path], /files=[path]
Scans a disk, a folder or a single file for malware infections. Folder paths with spaces have to be put in quotation marks.
Example: a2cmd /f="c:\windows\"

So you can probably schedule them with desired command line.
(Look through the list of commands on above link)

On any program, I will advice you putting detections into quarantine over auto-delete.
In case of False positives.

It does all, three in one

fx. i set up a scan with MBAM-Free a few days ago, there shouldn´t be any problem doing the same with EAM...
i´m using EAM-fullversion, so i can´t test it myself.

Yeah but i want a dedicated anti-spyware i can run daily as MBAM detected 4 spyware that MSE missed. Im going to assume MSE uses the same antispyware definitions as Windows Defender in which case its c*** for spyware lol.

Oh and thanks guys il try out Emsisoft Commandline Scanner later on as im testing spybot just now.

Gee, uh-uh.......don't you think it might be a good idea to protect your computer? Any reason you don't use them on your PC?

Because i dont need them. I use an app called Greenborder that secures my pc and i install Avira Antivirus probably every 6 months, run a full scan then uninstall it. It and other antiviruses have never detected a virus, spyware etc on my pc which is why i was asking for advice on the one i would need, as i dont need to keep up to date with all this security rubbish.

But anyway that Emsisoft Commandline Scanner suits my needs. Does anybody know how to get it to run hidden so that they wont see the cmd boxes popping up?
