How to create an email alias or expiring address?

Does anyone know a way to create an email alias? I sometimes need to email data to people without enabling them to contact me (they're supposed to go through a help desk). I've looked at services like 10minute mail, but they don't enable you to create and send mail, only receive it. Any ideas?

Go through a help desk? Can I assume there is a web site, with a domain name in the mix somewhere?

I would use the email services connected to the web site or domain name to create a generic email account, then configure it with an "auto response" that responds to any email sent to it with a message to contact the help desk. You can then use the email to send and do not have to be concerned if the recipient attempts to respond to the email instead of contacting the help desk.

However if you only have access to "free" email like google mail, yahoo mail, etc, I do not think you have this option. It might be time to have your own domain name and use the associated email account?

I don't think spoofing an email address is the best way to go. What happens when the user hit's reply? Better to create a filter. Then the emails gets directed to a folder, which you can periodically check, or just delete.

If you really wanted an anonymous email, create one from yahoo, google, etc.

I use listservs, which - with my settings - do not permit users to email back to me. The receive a bounce back email if they try.

I don't think it would be called an "alias". Just create a new email account with your service provider or a free account with a web-based service provider. In the body of the email put something like "This is a no-reply email. To respond go to... or call...". If they respond to the email anyway it will go the the dedicated account's inbox which you can ignore or view to see if your message is getting accross.

Yes, there is a website, but as an independent contractor I don't have access to those services. I have to do something on my own.

Victek; your situation sounds almost impossible to me ... you are required to send email data as a representative (even if as a independent contractor) of this company but they will not assign you an email address to use to do that?

If you cannot find a free service to do what you want, registering a domain name in order to use the email account included is not very expensive ...
