hi !

i found this on TWC-forum:

"The independent Malware Research Group started an interesting series of tests on September 1.
19 well-known security programs were challenged to a "duel" with ten of the most dangerous and
widely spread Malware pests.

At the start of September 2010 the Malware Research Group confronted 19 well-known security programs with 10 hand-picked types of widely spread Malware. These Malware programs were the latest versions of well-known pests and were all classified as highly threatening. "

Only one program detected all pests without exception: Emsisoft Anti-Malware

more info at TWC-forum: Emsisoft Anti-Malware only one to detect all malware in independent MRG Test

Anti-Malware Reviews - A collection of reviews, tests, awards and personal opinions of anti-malware software.

once again Emsisoft Anti-Malware (EAM), previously known as a-squared (a2), "wins" an antimalware test.
more info about previous awards: a-squared Anti-Malware Tests and Reviews

there is also a FREE version of Emsisoft Anti-Malware without realtime-protection: Emsisoft Anti-Malware - Best protection against Viruses, Trojan Horses, Spyware, Worms, Dialers, Adware, Keyloggers and Rootkits
you can test the FULL version for 33 days, then it turns into the FREE version.

Emsisoft Anti-Malware (EAM) can be used together with most other Antivirus / Antimalware-programs, although you (might) have to change the settings for the "FileGuard".
fx. EAM & MSE v2-beta works very well together, i´ve been testing those 2 with different settings for several weeks.

i´m trying to find the testresults at http://malwareresearchgroup.com, but i haven´t found them (yet)...
it would be VERY interesting to see the details for the other antimalware-programs...

Are you sure those results aren't the test? They started on September 1 and EAM passed them all.

I believe they are all there. You'll need to click 'Older Entries' to see them all.

hmmm, i have already checked "older", but since i was looking for a specific test i might have missed something.

anyway, this clearly shows why it´s ALWAYS recommended / required to post a link to the "original page", so others don´t have to waste a lot of time searching for the information....

I wouldn't put too much credit in reports by MRG.

Let's start with the wording of Subratam's blog post on the Emsisoft blog:

The infamous Malware Research Group has been running a couple of single malware detection tests since September 1st. {bold added}
Next, let's define "infamous", From define infamous - Bing DICTIONARY:

1. notorious: having an extremely bad reputation
2. abominable: so bad as to earn somebody an extremely bad reputation
3. criminal law punishable by serious penalty: formerly, punishable by imprisonment or loss of civil rights

Synonyms: notorious, disreputable, ill-famed, ill-reputed, dishonorable, scandalous, shameful
Synonyms: abominable, villainous, wicked, iniquitous, loathsome, outrageous, evil, shameful, nefarious, ignoble, heinous
From the perspective of what has been posted at Wilders and DSL Reports, it appears that the adjective "infamous" isn't far off the mark. A couple of examples from Wilders:

MRG Rogue Software Test - Wilders Security Forums
New MRG Test #20 Real Time Test - Wilders Security Forums

In addition, reputable companies do not generally hide behind Domains by Proxy: WhoIs Search Results

The infamous Malware Research Group...

i saw that too, and wondered what they meant...

From the perspective of what has been posted at Wilders and DSL Reports, it appears that the adjective "infamous" isn't far off the mark.

i only read the first page of each link, that was enough....

i thought MRG was a "respected" company...

THANKS for the info Corrine !

MRG has a shady past but I don't think you should completely dismiss these tests. They are currently using a decent methodology and MRG are in contact with the vendors being tested (information/samples are given after the tests).

The tests are still on-going.
