so you guys i want to share with you some notes on this....

i know you have heard that stpd wont work in 7 no matter what....

well that dosent meant that deamon tools wont work in 7 (well sort of...)

well as you can see its installed....

there are a few caveats....

no x64....
(well dosn't matter for the few of you running the beta...lol)
no DEP
(idk why maybe had to with the drivers???....)
deamon must run as Admin
(idk why my guess is interaction with said scsi drivers...


and the biggest one....
you can only run 3.17.....

well as you might know sptd wasnt originally on deamon tools another scsi adapter
was used when daemon tools was in its infancy....

No point, really, for using the older version, though, as Virtual Clone Drive works for basic optical disk emulation, and 3.17 has such old and outdated protection bypass schemes that is it pretty useless with any modern games.

However, thanks for looking into that - when I couldn't get Daemon to install because the installer kept trying to restart the SPTD driver install, I just gave up and stopped it - however, you have given me an idea - if we download the SPTD standalone installer and run *it* with compatibility mode enabled by itself, perhaps maybe we can get this animal working with the newer versions....

I wonder if we disable the need for signed drivers if it gets installed? Hell, I wonder if we can even disable that check in W7....

for basic optical disk emulation,

is basic optical disk emulation suitable for mounting and unmounted applications? I am interested for several reasons: a) I have heard 'old wifes tales' saying to not remove any programs/apps. b) I like [more like addicted] to installing all sorts of exe's, and some of them do need removing, but still reluctant because i was looking for a solution anyway, and a bone yard can be instructive, in that way. c) the new SSDs are great for the C drive, but only the smaller SSD are in my budget, can apps live off the OS drive?. d) i read on the VMware web site of a product that manages configuring applications on corporate laptops, but that was 6-7 thousand bucks! previously known as THINSTALL e) portableapps.com seems to be in the same family f) EVALAZE claims to install and run applications without having to install it in the "traditional way".

If you want a FOOL PROOF FREE Virtual Disk mounter (and it will also mount Nero NRG images as well as the usial ISO etc formats) try the FREE version of Alcohol 52% free edition -- this will allow you to have up to 6 Virtual drives mounted.

Works a treat on W7 X64 too

I don't know what sites you get redirected to in India but I'VE NEVER had this problem.

I NEVER INSTALL TOOLBARS OF ANY KIND BTW -- they are all irritants on a browser in the first place imo.

The fact you are downloading something that even says TRIAL in it tells me that this isn't the same download that I used.

I'm at work now so not at my home PC but I'll post a screenshot of Alcohol52% later when I can get to one of my private PC's.

No probs of any kind.

The first link is the official Alcohol Soft site. They have two versions of Alcohol 52% for download.
1. A free version of Alcohol 52% with the toolbar.
2. A 15 day trial of Alcohol 52% without the toolbar.


The version (2.0.1.2033.FE) is different from the one you posted (1.9.5.4327.FE)

I use DT ever since W98SE and since I wasn't aware of any problem between W7 and DT so I went ahead and just installed it.. so far it seems to be working just fine.

You've run into problems with DAEMON?

I haven't because I don't use it. But I have seen BSODs where uninstalling the newest SPTD driver solved the problem. On the other hand, I have never encountered a BSOD caused by MagicDisc which does not use the SPTD.sys driver. Daemon and Alcohol both use the SPTD driver.

You've run into problems with DAEMON?

I've had quite a few BSOD's with Daemon. Fixed by uninstalling it.
Using Virtual CloneDrive now

Wow, why the heck am I the only one who doesn't have software problems? DAEMON worked (and still works) for me, Vista worked for me, IE worked for me, Norton worked for me, etc...
