I am surprised that ESET Nod 32 is not listed. Perhaps it isn't available in the US.

As a long time Norton basher I began using their Internet suite in 2010 and I became a convert. It is surprisingly light on resources and I am never bombarded with firewall popups. I installed the 2011 update and the amount of information available is truly amazing.

Its amazing how Norton went from being the most hated AV to being one of the most respected in a few years.

I was a user of Norton in the early 2000s and I can not tell you how bad it was.

strictly and pedantically speaking, eset nod32 is not a security suite, but 'merely' an antivirus product.

a security suite normally includes a firewall, antispam etc.

eset do offer 'eset smart security 4' which includes these features...but as already noted, this product is not included in the review.

is this a joke ?
not the post, but the article in PcMag...
"Best Security suite", and they haven´t tested ALL ("big" names), just a few ?

anyway, most of them have useless firewalls, so it´s actually a good idea NOT to use a "Suite",
instead compose your own "Suite" by combining good Antivirus / Antimalware -programs with a good firewall.

take a look: http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge/results.php

i have also tested firewalls myself, when i tested ESET it performed so bad that i couldn´t believe the results,
so i had to run the test a second time just to be sure, and oh yes, i got the same result the second time....

EDIT: i noticed that Online Armor is missing on Matousec´s list, which is most probably because there is now a new version of Online Armor that haven´t been tested yet with the new "148-test".

Online Armor had 99% last time i saw it on the list, so Comodo & Online Armor are a good choice,
and both are FREE....

Yes it is very interesting. I also notice many I have tried through the years. You never know from year to year who is the top dog. At the present I use Windows 7 firewall and I'm completely happy, all ports are stealth. Webroot with Spy Sweeper is my choice of anti virus at this time, once again I'm happy. I would like to see MSE with Windows 7 firewall amoung those tested.

@andsome...I don't know why PC Mag doesn't mention Eset products in their Anti-Virus articles. Probably because they did review version 4 of the security suite early last year but rated it pretty poorly. I don't use the suite but have used NOD32 for over 10 years and have never been infected (that's why I have refused to switch products) NOD32 has won more VB100 awards than any other product and consistently gets an A+ rating at AV Comparatives.

Seems we discussed this before.
Matoustec is not a firewall test though is it?
Its a HIPS test if I recall.

Comodo is pretty good, although has a downside.
Its probably most horrible firewall ever if the user isn't knowledgeable in security.

What I mean is, Since it actually doesnt make any smart decisions on its own, it leaves it up to the user to decide on everything.
Rather than just prompt on unknowns, or possible threats.

This obviously has advantages, as it locks everything down and the only way in or out is via user permission.
But, if the user is not that informed, they will often make the wrong desicion blocking even legitamate apps. and then wondering why things arent working properly.

Many will disagree, I know. But my view is simply this:
A Firewall should not only be able stealth all ports, but know the difference between whats good and possibly bad.
It should smart enough to allow legitamate things such as Microsoft apps and other well know, trusted vendors through without bothering me.

As well as know the difference between malicious Activities, and when to ask about things that seem suspicious or should not be accessing the internet.

Not just throw every single action (legitamate & suspicious) on me, the user, to make the decision.
