what the best security solution

Kaspersky Internet Security is notorious for having an extremely low Virus detection rate, something Niemiro (Vista Guru over on VF) will pay testament to.
It performs very well in on-demand, proactive and dynamic tests. I have never seen anyone claim that it has low detection rates before.

This is based completely on two sources:

The attached chart.

Niemiro's hours of complaints about how few viruses were detected when he switched from McAfee to Kaspersky last year.
This is completely unscientific but since he switched to Kaspersky I think he's had at least one possibly two major attacks, whereas when he had McAfee he had no major attacks.

Oli
That is an on-demand test that to me is not indicative of prevention against 0-day malware or other malware. Look at the dynamic test.

Look where Microsoft is (on the results you posted). And you use it.

"when he had McAfee he had no major attacks."

Exactly. Who is to say that McAfee wouldn't have failed in place of Kaspersky?

Unlike, Oli, I would not have McAfee on my computer; but that is my personal opinion.

Point taken, we shall have to agree to disagree.

What I think we can all agree is that it doesn't particularly matter which antivirus program you have as long as you've got one installed. They're all pretty good; none of them are perfect and some are more suited for some tasks than others but for a few megabytes of code they do remarkably well.

Oli

On that we definitely agree! :D

I gave ESET and Avast the maximum score :geek:

Wicca, if you think that Kaspersky is the best, then go ahead and use it, I don't think you need other's "approval" that it is the best out there... Each are to their own, I personally use MSE, even if it's rated low on some tests, I use it as "last line of defense", my first line of defense would be my common sense... If I was sent a file named "...some_naked_girl.jpg.com" by a friend/colleague, I'd decline the offer in an instant, a .com file is an executable, 99.999999999999999999999999999% means virus/malware, I don't need MSE to scan that file to see if it is indeed a virus/malware, common sense...
