A More Beautiful Web – IE9 Beta Gets 6 Million Downloads

Firefox 3 had more than 8 million unique downloads the day it was released, and it took ie9 2 days to reach 2 million and two weeks to hit 6 million.

Was that a final version of Firefox 3? If so, you might want to rethink that statistical comparison. IE9 is a beta and Firefox 3 is the final version - a final version is going to get more downloads than a beta.

And? What is your point?

Everyone has a vendetta against IE because of its prior versions. No one can seem to comprehend that the companies products are going in the right direction now (while in the past they were kind of on a wonky path).

Just because FireFox 3 got eight million downloads on the day it was release and it took Internet Explorer 9 a bit longer to get that, doesn't mean anything.

Huh.. for me it tops even Google Chrome's/Chromium's speed.

Case in point IE 6 has the great vendetta against that particular version of IE being nothing but a list of security holes fortunately getting patched up with the release of IE 7 and the first antiphising filters seen. Since 6.0 came with XP FF grew in popularity and got a fast rep as being the secure browser.

The largest wakeup call was eventually seeing the malwares directed at FF and Mozilla working to patch up their own holes. The next 4.0 version will only be seen in 32bit by the way.

As far as the Chrome browser I made comparisons to just about every browser still found recently and Chrome still remains the beta browser being half of one to start with. Besides speed functionality is another consideration and I'll be waiting to see what else is revealed in the finished IE 9! :D

both chrome and ie9 i'll wait to see how they preform once they have the kind of addon support that firefox and opera does. there are already some hacks for fixing a couple of things in the ie9 gui. i would post them, but i'm having a hard time finding them again. if i find them i will post them.

What's funny to me is the 6 million downloads. Only because it can only be used on Vista and Windows 7. With that said doesn't it seem odd since 60% of Windows users in the world still use XP? Imaging if XP could run IE9. There would be like 6 BILLION downloads! LOL
