    ATI Sapphire 4870x2 2gb - Win7 - Tons of issues

    Hello all,

I hope you guys can help me out.

I recently upgraded from xp to win 7, did clean install. Install went great, no errors whatosever.

However, getting my ati card drivers to work correctly have been a horrendous journey.

Any Catalyst download, or modded ati driver will simply work correctly with win 7 and my computer. If I load anything other than the WDM driver that it loads itself, it gives me the "Ati driver not working correctly..etc" window.

I've tried to keep win7 from installing it's own driver but to no avail it will keep doing it (did the option to do installs myself, and UAC is at minimum).

The only way I can keep it from loading those on install is to delete 2 ati files in the windows/sys32/filestore(forget the folder name tbh). Then it won't load any drivers... but then Windows still will not accept the drivers to work with the card.

Also, when I run dxdiag and tab to the driver tab..it pulls NO info from the card(because driver isn't correct I'm assuming). I've also tried a game and it gave me a dx9 error and promptly shutdown. (even after running sdk install).

So I'm not sure what to do at this point.. RMA The card? it works perfect in winxp with flying colors (loved the card!).

Hopefully I can get this resolved soon. I'm pretty patient on getting this to work.. I don't have the $ for an overhaul.

    Your thoughts? any help appreciated.

Also if any system specs are needed just ask. I'll check on this late tonight.

Replace your Mobo. I suspect your Northbridge controller just doesn't like Win7. I had that problem with Battlefield 2 when it first came out, no matter what I tried it crashed within a few minutes of playing. Reinstalled Windows, Upgraded the card, etc. Replaced the mobo and bam stable.

    I'm considering doing that.

I would upgrade the mobo/ram/cpu. Gonna hurt in my pocketbook I'm afraid.

If it worked in windows XP, a mobo change would not be a solution.

All BIOS and motherboard/chipset drivers installed?

Can you get an old HDD, and do another clean install, see if maybe something happened during this install?
try a repair install? Or Chkdsk?

did a clean install the other day on a diff h/d. no problems in install of win7, and ati. the only errors I get is after the reboot that is directly after ati driver install. on that reboot it states ati driver not working properly. i can r/click the desktop, CCC is a selection, but cannot run due to driver problems.

chipset drivers were installed. bios on mobo has not been flashed yet. always been leery of doing that, but will try if you think that would get it to work right

installs without any hitch.. no warnings, anything> I can do a detailed screenshot if you would like possibly later today after work, or Saturday. the only warning popups are after reboot.

    I appreciate any/all efforts here =)
