    Radeon RX 560 crashes

    Hello all.

Since I built my current desktop machine 3 years ago, I've been having occasional BSODs when gaming. I'm not much of a PC gamer and I don't run much of anything modern (unless recent updates to, say, minecraft qualify as such), but it seems to happen more "reliably" with some games than others. There's one I've recently reinstalled which is practically unplayable before it's BSOD time again (though again, not a recent release, and which I've used reliably on other Win7 machines for years).

The stopcode is Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal. In my searches I've seen all kinds of theories on this one. At one point I suspected memory, but I ran memtest86 last week and it passed just fine. That combined with the fact that it lists pci.sys as being at fault, and that it only happens when gaming, seems to strongly point to either my Radeon RX 560 or something in the communication with it via the PCI slot (but this is where my knowledge tends to end).

I installed the newest Radeon Software (Adrenalin Edition 22.6.1, driver version 21.09.13.02-etc) just last night. Then I tried the game that was crashing the most and I didn't get 30 seconds in before BSOD time.

Wondering what else I can do to fix this issue - is there a feature of the graphics card that I can disable, or some way to troubleshoot pci.sys? Any way I could figure out what "common denominator" feature the affected games are using (as not all games are affected)?

A quick note - I know this issue centers around BSODs, but at present I'm not able to post properly in the BSOD support board (the tool provided there captures my local profile name which I've found impossible to scrub or modify from my real name, and with apologies I am not willing to post that online). I've attached the windbg analysis of my most recent crash dump and my system specs are viewable in my profile. Happy to provide any other info if needed.

EDIT: I found the export feature of msinfo32 and so here's also a textfile of that with names scrubbed.

Good question, sorry it didn't occur to me that wasn't in my profile.

My case makes it a bit tough to get at it without taking it apart, but I dug up one of my first threads here where I posted this pcpartpicker link. Seems it's a PowerSpec 550W.

    Hi

im not a BSOD guy, but looking at the stack results have the following comments

the initial call is from an Idle state.... (logs run from bottom up)
set operational power levels to high, Bios and Windows...
(might be worthwhile to turn OFF XMP, if its on your board)

are your Express Root drivers upto date

Which drive is your game on, and are the pagefileS set to System managed default

Some of this is (currently) over my head. How would one set these power levels or examine the XMP setting? Somewhere in BIOS maybe? I also do not know how to check the pagefileS setting.

By Express Root driver, do you mean the one for devices labeled "PCI Express standard Root Port" in devmgr? Because if so, they point to pci.sys which is definitely the problematic file at the moment, but an auto-update attempt tells me the one I have is current.

All software is currently on the SSD with the OS. The HDD is only used for storage.

    1. Click on the Start button.
    2. Right click on Computer.
    3. Select Properties
    4. Click on Advanced system settings on the left.
    5. Click on the Settings button under the Performance group.

    Thanks.

I have four Root Port devices, all pointing to pci.sys, none of which can be rolled back (though for some reason two of the four can be disabled while the other two cannot).

Windows power options have been set to high performance since the beginning (all individual settings similar to high performance)

Page file is automatically managed (set to 32gb, same as my RAM).

EDIT: In power options one potentially relevant thing under PCI Express is called Link State Power Management, and this setting is off.

    Intresting,
Express root is part of the Chipset driver setup... assume its the current version your running
not sure if the "greyed out" drivers are because there not in use

Okay, so, this is where it gets weird.

I'm not honestly sure which version I have there, partially because I don't know which specific device in devmgr (if any) represents the CPU itself. I did look for chipset drivers for my CPU (Ryzen 7 2700X) the other night, but when I found them, there were no Win7 drivers. The reason this is weird is, when putting the thing together - I don't have any specific memory of this as it was three and a half years ago, but knowing myself, I wouldn't have bought parts that were known to be incompatible with the OS I was planning on installing (aside from the USB drivers during setup thing which is well-documented on these forums). I did later find out that the mobo I bought has a built-in wifi that is not Win7 compatible despite the mobo itself being advertised as such, which is why I now no longer trust Gigabyte.

So I'm not sure where to go chipset-wise at present. If I can't find anything usable there, I'd at least like to figure out if there's some particular graphics feature that I should avoid using lest I trigger the BSODs going forward.

    Hi
certainly is weird the official site says w10, but when you start digging down there are drivers for 7
been looking at available updates,, there seem to be masses of them 17, for Bios alone

would you be happy to run and post the MSINFO32 report
