ATI Confirms 5700, 5800 Problems; Promises Fix

This may be what you seen, in which case it happens to every radeon 5xxx series card and needs 10.3 drivers to fix.

10.3 doesn't fix i for everyone, and infact i don't recognise the drivers as a real fix.

the issue is definitely in the hardware itself, specifically where it switches from 3D to 2D voltages, (or in reverse).

Since there is more then just a GFX issue here though, definitely get the machine serviced.

If its a hardware issue than over a million 5xxx series cards are faulty.
