In your case living in the UK your first going to have to find what's available to you.

Second we would need to know your budget.

So my suggestion is to google reviews on AM3 DDR2 boards and see if the one that meets your requirements is available to you. As you'll get alot of members personal manufacturers preference or linked to a site that is not available to you.

The motherboard in my specs cost about $180 US, but uses DDR3 RAM.

I've been able to get a stable OC of 4.8 GHz with a 1090T. The main thing is I know it's a combination that works. You have to make sure the memory you buy is AM3 compatible or you're going to have all kinds of problems with BSODs in window. I have 8GB of Crucial Ballistix that I can't use until I decide to build another Intel system because I didn't double check.. there's nothing wrong with the memory, but

If you can find one pretty much any 790FX/SB750, but the DDR2 versions are getting harder to find. If you can't find one or Crossfire isn't a concern then any 785G/SB710 (just disable the onboard video, or as an added bonus when used with any ATI card allows for up to 4 monitors).

Having DDR3 would cost me £100 more than needed,

Thanks I like the model it is what I needed but am going to buy it from here Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD3P AMD 790X (Socket AM3/AM2+) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard [GA-MA790X-UD3P] Motherboards AMD AM2+ (AMD Chipset)

I can't OC on my motherboard nor can I add any new cpu's or graphics card or I will bottleneck everything. That is why I need a new mb and my graphics card is failing

I would say it would be better to start with 2Gb of ddr3 now and and upgrade later than with 4GB of DDR2. DDR2 is going to get a lot more expensive in the future, as several major computer manufacturers have stopped using it in most new systems
