4 out of 6 ram usable on w7 x64 please help

Hi there fellas, i got this problem with 6g installed ram but windows only shows 4 (i can see 6 when i check with cpuz) the ram is all new and i have also checked them all for errors. I find this annoying since some games freez up or give me blue screen due to memory running out : S

I link my dxdiag and hopefully some one smart can see what is wrong : )

Just to be sure that your sticks and sockets are working. Install Everest and go to Computer->Summary,scroll down and you'll see

DMI Total / Free Memory Sockets 2 / 1

This is from my computer,check yours.
Also how much ram is showed is BIOS? If there is showed 4GB,there may be problem with your memory.
It will be good to check your ram with Memtest.

DMI Total / Free Memory Sockets 6 / 4 for me.

I have run memtest for several nights in different periods to check em and their flawless as they should be since they are spanking new : /

Oh also im not sure how many showing up in bios but as said in the original post i can see that 6 is installed with programs such as "cpuz" and similar

ALSO found this also stating 6g dimms : /

Hm... If CPU-Z sayz that there are 6GB of ram installed there should be 6. What's one dimm size? 1GB?
If you have 4 used slots,combination can be 2GB+2GB+1GB+1GB. Or you have 6 dimms of 1GB. (so 2 of them are not working) ?
Can you see in your motherboard,are there really 2 slots free ?

there are 6 slots, i use 3 of them, its 2, 2, 2 (also i have put them in in the slots told by the handbook that came with the motherboard for my configuration

Here.. Total = 6 , Free = 4.
You say that are using 3 slots(2+2+2). Windows is saying that you are using only 2.(6 total - 4 free = 2 slots) . So it seems to be a problem with one of the dimms.
To find out the broken one,follow this:
1. Pull out one of them,and boot Windows to see if there is 4GB ram installed.
- If there is 4,that's ok. The two remainning dimm's are working.
2. Install that dimm again(that one that you pulled out before),but now pull out another one from two that stayed.
- Boot Windows to see how much ram is installed. If there is only 2GB of ram,that means that the problem is with that dimm.

problem is memtest dosnt say 1 of them is broken (also i just changed them cause i had the same problem with another set of dims) my guess is that its the slot its in? but the wierd thing is that if something is physically broken then why can i eve detect it with some programs : S

If you have three memory modules, in that board they need to be in slots DIMM A1, B1, and C1. Check the memory slot alpha/numbers in your mobo manual under Recommended memory configuration for better performance.

I see in an earlier post you had the same problem with another set of memory modules. Did you build this system and if so recently or did it work for awhile and you added more RAM?

last time i put in 8g ram and then it was unstable as **** but showed 6g ram, so same problem there with 2g not being useable : / atleast the pc is stable as long as i dont play BF or MoH

but would be nice to not pay for a set ammount and always miss out on that tiny extra bit that u need

could be, but forgot to mention when i tried with 8 i used another motherboard aswell, the reason i changed was cause i got a new cooler motherboard 4 free and with the dimms cause my friend tol me 8gig is not for intel proccesors.

What bothers me is that all the parts i use right now are all new and all put in at the same time, shouldnt be broken when i get it : S

I have read somewhere some things bout voltages and such could be the bad guy in the drama and that you could change ur values to make it work?

Did you build the system though? X58 motherboards have a problem wherein if the CPU and/or heatsink fan are not correctly installed that can cause problems with the memory controller resulting in less memory appearing. The following link can give you more ideas to look into but the seating of the CPU and fastening of the CPU heatsink/fan are the first culprits to look into. Keep in mind that although the article concerns overclocking that is not necessary to have this problem.

Yes i built the system, checking the seatings of the heatsink etc is something ive done many times, the heatsink also uses plastic thingy to stick to the motherboard so should be a problem there, I got no idea about all the volt stuff other than that the dimms currently runs on 1.5.

Damn this problem seams much harder to fix than i expected

If you're not overclocking then the voltage shouldn't be a problem and you could set in the BIOS for it to use Default settings, but I suspect that's how you're running it anyway. What do you mean by "the heatsink also uses plastic thingy to stick to the motherboard so should be a problem there"? Did you use the stock Intel cooler and heatsink in this build? If not, what heatsink/cooler brand and model?

i linked a picture of it, what i ment was that there are plastic pluggs for installing this big boy meaning no actuall metall is touching the motherboard (should not be a problem there*** in previous post)

What is the brand and model number of the memory modules you're using? You checked the Asus Qualified Vendors List and matched the memory modules with that correct?
