Now that I am thru biting my lip

I had one of those 3310 multi printers and I found that it would do all kinds of neat things back in the XP days but It would not scan over the network. For some reason the scan function requires drivers that are not network compatible. At least
that is what I found out with mine.

I now have a color 2840 and found that the same thing, scanning over the network is not supported.

I have a non-profit where I volunteer and they have color copiers/scanners that only scan to .pdf and only via email, you have to setup an email address with all the attendent settings and it works great.

So it looks like money is the key to remote scanning.

But then someone might have done it and just not told anyone else about how they did it.

I use one of these Hawking 1-Port USB 2.0 Print Server for Multifunction Printers (HMPS1U): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories with my HP multifunction printer / scanner and it workd perfectly. I can print from or scan to any PC on my network.

Works with Windows 7 just as well as it did with XP.

Not sure if it is still available but there must be other similar devices.

Hi, I have recently removed a tp link print server that allowed remote xp pcs to print to a hp g55, which worked perfectly, but if I hook that up again it means I have to have the server software on all pcs, I have to have a powered usb hub (for both all in ones) as well as the plugpack for the server. Very messy. Thanks for the response, but what im not so simply trying to do is use the built in facility on both machines to connect to my already in place network. Should be easy, but then easy and HP dont always share the same sentence. Thanks again

Hi, thanks for the response, according to Hp the 3310, and the c6180 are supported for network printing , scanning, and card reading, over a ethernet lan, provided the "full feature software is installed on every pc. I only want to scan on 1 pc that is close to the 3310, which is where ive been trying to install the software, and i can already print to the 3310 from any pc on the network, which is all i want with the remainder of the pcs. HP want $30.00 per printer to tell me how to fix the problem, and offer no guarantee that they can. I am thinking of updating my old laserjet 4200dtn (which works great on the same network) and for the first time ill be looking at other than hp offerings. Thanks for trying
