Windows 7 BSOD from Setpoint

I have a fairly new Dell 3620 Desktop that is really enjoyable. It has been great and I've been using a Logitech Wireless (MK 710) combination Keyboard and M705 mouse along with the newest version of Logitech Setpoint. Recently the PC performance started to act up and I had issues with long shutdowns and crashes. When the PC would hang at shutdown it would proceed fine if I pulled the Logitech wireless receiver from the USB port. When I reinstall Setpoint from Logitech I get a BSOD and have no choice but to remove the software. This results in much less use of the nice keyboard and hotkeys. Any suggestions and ideas on a fix are appreciated. I don't know if a recent Windows Update clashes with Setpoint or if a setting is triggering this issue. I'd just like to use Setpoint. Right now I'm just allowing Windows to set the drivers for the mousse and keyboard and they are working fine. I guess this is an option, but I'd like to use Setpoint again if possible.

Hi jsc145, welcome to the Forum.

Have you had a look in Device Manager to see if you have any yellow exclamation marks in either the keyboard or mouse devices.

This might be a silly suggestion, but when you downloaded the latest Logitech Set Point software did you make sure you selected the 64 bit version & not the 32 bit version. I have a Logitech wireless mouse which uses probably the same software & I don't have any problems at all.

I'm sure I installed the 64 bit version of Setpoint. There are no exclamation points at all in device manager. Just seems like a driver issue. That is what I'm told the BSOD message states.

Open a cmd window and type:
- Chkdsk c: /f - Schedule to do a disk check on next boot
- SFC /scannow - to do a System File Check

Just ran Chkdsk and it returned no errors. Just so baffled. Setpoint was running on this pc without issue for months and now it's an issue. Fairly certain it's a driver issue but cannot install and run Setpoint without it crashing pc.

Have you installed any new software that might be causing the issue, or changed your anti virus software. As you have said the computer ran the Logitech software for ages without a problem & now it has one, so something has changed. As far as I know MS updates have not caused any Logitech problems.

One easy thing worth trying would be to change the USB port where the Logitech wireless receiver is plugged in.

I have tried multiple usb ports. I have however, switched to a new Antivirus (Eset Nod32). I disable the antivirus when installing Setpoint. Not sure Nod32 is causing the issue.

jsc145, when you uninstalled your old anti virus did you use their uninstall utility, as just using the normal Windows uninstall does not remove AV programs properly, in fact uninstalling AV programs can be difficult as remnants are often left behind that interfere with a new AV program.

I thought about this a few days ago. I removed the native Windows drivers for the mouse, keyboard and wireless transmitter. Then, I installed Setpoint with the included drivers. Same issue. I also removed the previous antivirus before installing Setpoint. I'm at a loss of what to do but may just end up leaving the keyboard and mouse alone. They are both working fine with Windows drivers and the pc is very stable. I just would like the hotkey functions provided by Setpoint on the keyboard.
