Printer stopped being recognized by computer

I am no longer able to print wireless to my Canon MP-495.

    Very recent development

When I try to connect to printer, it says it is offline, which it isn't (I can print from other devices)

when I try to Open Devices and Printers from the control panel, it just hangs, with the green bar slowly creeping across, but never populates.

My Computer is an Acer V3-551
    AMD A8-4500 Processor 64 Bit
    8 GB of RAM
    Running Windows Home Premium SP1

    Any Thoughts?

"Windows Home Premium SP1" -- Which version of Windows do you have? 7? 8.1? XP?

I have a Canon printer. It refuses to print in Windows 7, unless I reinstall the printer software. It will then work for a few minutes, and then I can't print to it anymore.

However, I never have any problem printing to it from my Windows 8.1 laptop.

I can print to it without a problem in Linux Mint. However, if I open the printer status window and look at the messages, I find that when Linux first sends the print job, a message is displayed that the printer is offline. But Linux keeps trying, and momentarily after that message is displayed, it prints without issue.

In short, I think there is a problem with Canon printers showing that they are offline. (Maybe they are offline momentarily.) In my experience, Windows 7 is unable to overcome this error; but Windows 8.1 and Linux Mint are able to overcome it.

I rarely run Windows 7; but some things I plan to try include:
    • Installing an older version of the printer software.
    • Installing a newer version of the printer software.
    • Installing either the Vista version or the Windows 8.1 version of the printer software.
Try some of those things; in my experience, you may in fact solve the problem by performing one of these tasks.

    Good luck.

Thanks anyway, but that did not work. Even after reinstalling, I get a "Printer not responding" message. Even when trying to print while connected via USB.

I am thinking the problem has to be somewhere in my msconfig or services set up
