Can't upgrade in Windows 7 Pro

Hello:

I upgraded from Vista Premium to Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. I am unable to install many of the Windows Updates such as SP 1, Explorer 9 and many of the the intermittent Windows updates.

I have downloaded the SP1 from Microsoft and tried to manually install, but it works acts as though it is installing for about 45 minutes then gives me an error. It tells me that i should be download the Windows Readiness Tool. I did that and it grinds away for a while and then sits at this message - "Installing Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) (update 1 of 1)...".

I try to intsall Office 2010 and that install fails as well. I don't know what the heck is wrong, but all other programs that I install do just fine. It is just Microsoft products that crash.

At even validated my copy of Windows 7 Pro - it is Genuine. Needless to say I am .

Can ANYONE help please?

Could be due to doing an inferior in-place Upgrade from Vista, which transfers corruption from the old install into the new OS.

Consider doing a clean install by booting the Win7 DVD, following these tips to get a perfect reinstall - use the ones which apply: Clean Reinstall steps

If not, run a Repair Install.

Clean installs are always best.

Tried the Repair install, but when I choose the Install now option, the computer returns a dialog box that says "Windows could not collect information for [OSImage] since the specified file [Install.wim] does not exist.

Did a search on my hard drive, and the Install disk - it was not found.

Now what?

Where did you get the Win7 DVD? Did you download the ISO and burn it yourself? If so, confirm the ISO integrity and burn another using ImgBurn at 4x speed. Or extract ISO files to desktop to run Setup as Admin.

What are your hesitations about running a clean reinstall? You can back up a System Image if you need a path back. Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

If I read your post correctly, I can create an image of my C: Drive to let's say my 2 Tb external HD, do the clean install, and then restore the image? My big concern is having to reinstall all of my programs, etc. Will R Drive do the same thing?
