win xp x64 dual boot on win 7

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware on the manufacturer's web site.
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.
SATA Drivers - Load in Windows XP Setup on Dual Boot
OR
SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD

When using SysPrep or Paragon Adaptive Restore, you may need to install Sata Controller drivers.

Many thanks for the very helpful suggestions and pointer to useful resources. Chasing down driver this morning but hope I do not need them. My XP disk has SP2 on it so I am hoping that should make it somewhat smoother.

Qustion for GregRocker: Why do you suggest that I boot through a bios change rather than use Boot Manager? Just curious.

When you no longer need Win XP, it is easier to remove.

Unless they get virtual XP running a command line in actual full screen as it will on my XP system via the mode command in Autoexec.bat, I'll be using this for quite some time. In fact, at this point the Win7 system adds little value for me. My compilers, MVS, editors all work well for now, The biggest nag I have is a text editor from the DOS days, called Kedit. A knock off of the old IBM VMS Xedit. After about 25 years coding on that platform it is kind of hard to change and though I have searched I have found no satisfactory equivalent for Win 7.

One more question. Can I find the drivers I need on my System Restore or System Recovery disks or do I need to get up on the HP site and download new ones?

Go to the HP website and download and save them from there. You'll find them on the Drivers & Support page and they will be the latest ones.

If your Win XP can see your HD at this screen



no need for Sata Controller Drivers.

We are talking Win XP, not Windiws 7.

Bummer. When I go to the drivers download page and enter my model number I get altternatives only for Win 7 32 bit or Win 7 64 bit. And a discouraging message that informs me if you do not see your system listed HP does not have drivers for your product in that operating system.

Any idea for what to do next?
