Endless Reboot Loop When Upgrading from Vista to Windows 7

I'm upgrading one of my PCs from Vista Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. This is from a CD. Everything went great until it restarted itself and this message showed up: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error windows installation cannot proceed". It then tells me to reboot in order to restart the installation. When I do that, I just keep getting the same error.

I read on the Microsoft website that you need to select Vista at the boot menu, but I don't have that option. I've also tried doing a rollback, and have gone into safe mode, but nothing works. It's stuck

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-Bit

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I don't know whether you were aware, but you can use your Windows 7 upgrade disc to carry out a clean install.

The Windows Vista product key is the main criteria as far as Microsoft are concerned. As long as you have that you don't have to have Vista instsalled first and a clean install is always better than an upgrade from a previous operating system.
