Safely delete bootmgr from old Vista hard drive

    Hi,

I installed Windows 7 in dual boot with Vista.
Win7 HD letter is "C" and Vista's one is "F".

I tried to detach Vista HD but I get bootmgr is missing.

    Re-attaching it works fine.

I noticed that bootmgr is on the F disk (Vista) and not on C disk (win7).

I want to detach Vista disk and don't have dual boot anymore ... how can I update/fix this situation ?

    Thanks :)

Hello Joker, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Please post a screenshot of your Disk Management window showing all of your HDD's layout. This will help us give you more accurate advice. :)

From the sounds of this so far, you may need to mark your Windows 7 partition as Active, then do a startup repair for Windows 7 with your Windows 7 installation DVD/USB or System Repair Disc to fix this.

Please wait until we see your screenshot before doing anything so we can be certain though. :)

    Hi,

    I followed sevenforums link:

Bootmgr - Move to C:\ with EasyBCD

    and all worked fine :)

    Thanks for help.

You will most likely not have System Recovery Options on F8 Advanced Boot Options now, since the EasyBCD repair is not holistic.

YOu can repair them in most cases by running Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times making sure Win7 or its 100mb boot partition are marked Active first.
