    What build # & Version of the Win_7 ?
    Where did you get the iso file from ?
    How did you burn the DVD ? At a slow x4 speed ?
    Any Over Clocking of ram or cpu ?
    Best to have 2gb ram or less for initial install !
    Suggestion, remove everything not essential to loading Win_7, from the system.
    No printers, gamepads, second monitors, scanners, external devices, flash drives etc...

    Reece, I take that you are installing a version (32 or 64bit) compatible with your laptop, right? I couldn't find if it is 64bit capable in its specs
    By disconnecting devices Doc meant disabling them in the BIOS. You should have:
    Card Reader - 5 in 1 -> disable
    Networking - Network adapter - Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g -> disable
    Wireless NIC - Acer InviLink 802.11b/g -> disable
    Telecom - Fax / modem - 56 Kbps -> disable

    let us know

    im doing this for vista so i can load 7 onto my pc.
    To create a new partition will be the same. There is also a tutorial at the Vistax64 site.

    How to Shrink and Create a Partition with Disk Management in Vista

    FREE Great Programs for Vista

    7 zip will work in vista as well.

    If you suspect your installation DVD might be corrupt try this.

    You mentioned you got your ISO on a memory stick, copy it to you hard drive then follow the tutorial and you'll have a bootable USB stick. The Seven Forums tutorial will work on your Vista OS.

    If you have a minimum 4GB USB memory stick, put Windows 7 on it, it will load faster and no burn errors.

    The Seven Forums tutorial explains how to do it.

    How to Create a Windows 7 Installation USB Key

    This is easy and fast to put on a memory stick, less time then burning to a DVD. It will also install Windows 7 faster.

    If you boot from the DVD right at starup, you should see an option in one of the the lower corners to Format your hard disk for a new clean install
