Change from XP to Windows 7 advice

I am in the process of collecting all the information that I need prior to installing Windows 7 Home 32 bit in the near future. My current XP system is using a Gigabyte Motherboard GA-MA78LM-S2 with Processer2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 / 256 kilobyte primary memory cache / 512 kilobyte secondary / Bus Clock: 200 megahertz / BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. F3 09/23/2009memory cache. and 2 GB memory. I hope that I have supplied enough relevant information here.

I have run the Windows 7 compatibility report and apart from some minor software incompatibility it passes all the requirements. I have read that some older motherboards could be problematic when using Windows 7.

I suppose that I would just like some reassurance that I will not have any problems with my proposal as I realise that my system specs are not exactly cutting edge, so to speak. I do not do any gaming, video rendering or the like. Also after I have this new OS installed could I have any problems adding another 2 GB of memory.

Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated, Thank you Pedro.

The board is Windows 7 Qualified, you'll be OK, make sure you flash it to latest bios since it addresses some operating system issues, and follow the tutorial created by Brink and everything will be alright.

    Clean Install Windows 7

    Thanks for your reply OldMX.
I will follow that tutorial but can you recommend where I can find some good information on flashing the BIOS, seeing that this quote from that tutorial has me somewhat concerned

“(WARNING - DO NOT FLASH THE BIOS if you do not know what you are doing. Please ask for help instead. One mistake can kill your motherboard permanently.)”

Your Gigabyte mobo has "DualBIOS" so you can always recover from a bad BIOS flash. You should only update the BIOS if you are having a specific problem that the BIOS update addresses. Updating just for the sake of updating is a poor practice when it comes to BIOS updates. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    Gigabyte BIOS info.
