Nevermind, I found it in "My Posts".
Slartybart haha
I glad the issues was sorted out for you Adam. You've learned a lot of stuff in the process.
Be carefull though.... you are now the network guy in your home.
thanks for marking the thread solved.
Finish the Windows Updates - there are lots of them.
Check the tutorial -> it lays out all the proper steps (we took a back road)
I'm fairly certain the following is in the tutorial - look there first.
Greg put a lot of effort into all of his tutorials and they are great resources
on the left hand side or the Windows Update panel you'll seeBill
Change settings, click that
under Important updates there is a drop down box
clcik on the drop down arrow of that box and select
Install updates automatically (recommended)
also tick
Give recommended update the same way I receive Improtant updates
click OK
Oh, maybe I should mention that you don't want to start at the beginng of the tutorial
you know where it say install windows
You're interested in the stuff after Windows is installed - right?
Right!
I wouldn't want you to have to do THIS thread again. Phew!
I was of course having a little fun.
But I can't emphasize enough how important it is to let machine run as it is for a while.
That way if an issue does come up, you are fairly sure it wasn't from things you changed or installed.
Only install programs that you absolutely nedd - hold off on games and other fun stuff
Never install any optimizing program or registry cleaner - just don't - tehy tend to break machines.
Alright then, I'm getting sleepy.
G'nite Adam,
Bill
Goodnight Adam
Goodnight Bill
Goodnight Greg

Goodnight all y'all

So it seems the Optional Windows Update driver delivered for Wireless got you connected? Be sure to install the others, and keep checking back for Important and Optional Updates, install with reboot, then Check for Updates again until there are no more.
I'm not sure why Ethernet cable didn't connect earlier when we had you try it several times. Adam, do you know what was different this time that got it connected? Bill?
I wonder also what Realtek Wireless driver was installed that the Updates driver replaced. You had said you imported both Wireless and Ethernet drivers from Acer site, but that didn't have a Realtek driver, and we found out today the Realtek was added later. Did the disk your Mom found install a Realtek driver? And can you remember where you had gotten the wireless driver that was there before that - we know you had one because you checked earlier.
I made over a dozen attempts to understand what drivers were installed and not but such was the cacophony that few of my requests were answered. It's clear now that should have remained the focus.
I am glad you're up and running now. If you'll finally look over these same steps to get and keep a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 then you will have a perfect install for as long as you do. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions in the tutorial comments, now or later.
Undo anything it did. They usually have the option in the program to undo all that stuff that you might have told it to do. And uninstall it as soon as possible. The only one that can be recommended for cleaning is ccleaner.
Tutorial on how to use it:
CCleaner - Delete Junk Files
Otherwise, stay away.
