Clean Win 7 install on Dell Vista Machine

I want to do a clean install on a dell vista 32 bit machine. Can that be done, I do not have any drivers for the dell? Should I do an upgrade instead?

Welcome to the forum. You need first to goto dell site put in you tag number and see if drivers are there for win7 if so download them to a usb or simliar then you can boot win7 dvd delete all paritions and let windows create new ones and then if needed you have drivers to hand it should all work as long as there are drivers

As Samuria mentioned, see if Dell has win7 drivers for your computer.
Even if it doesn't, you can try to use the Vista drivers.
    - If you don't have the Dell Vista Factory Recover disks, make them.
    - Back your data to an external drive.
    - Do a clean install. Boot win 7 installation disk, go to install - advanced - delete ALL partitions - proceed.
Windows will create 2 partitions (MSR and a NTFS). Clean Install Windows 7

I did a search on making a Factory Recover disk and it looks kinda complicated at the website i went to. I will have to get the service tag off of the machine to see if dell has 32 bit drivers for windows 7. Thanks for all the help. The vista machine is at my work so it will be a couple of days.

Normally you have an option to build the Factory Recover disks from a BIOS option. IF you still have Vista working, under windows you will find it on Dell programs.

Dell does not have Windows 7 drivers listed for my machine, says they are not supported. I downloaded the Windows 7 update checker and it said that Windows 7 will work on it. I suppose that means the vista drivers will work for Windows 7?

As long as your NIC is working, snaildriver is a good free program to find and install your drivers.
