Did you use Easy Transfer to back up those files to your external?

I am willing to help you install Windows 7 correctly now. I have installed it on Gateway ML3108b before.

Raymond, I second Rich's suggestion. Follow Greg's recommendations (he is good). If you install it correctly you might get a better performance than XP. Win7 is the best solution for netbooks, which have slower processors and not a lot of memory.

If you don't like it then, you can dump it.

1gb is not necessarily the reason you are running slowly.

Did you upgrade the RAM to a gig because that notebook comes with 512 mb (but expandable to 2 gigs)? It also has a Sempron processor which is weaker than many but Win7 capable. My nephew ran Win7 fine on it until he took it into the shower to listen to tunes

If we install Win7 correctly then you will see what speed you actually are going to get and maybe decide to add another gig of RAM if you use a lot of games, media or other graphics-intensive apps.

We can help you optimize the installation for that rig so that 1 gig should run it fine.

However....your Easy Transfer should work if you want to reinstall XP then transfer files back in from external.

I suggest you have only Windows 7 on the hard drive. Say now if you want to have any other OS's or partitions on the hard drive.

Please look at Computer>Properties to confirm that 1gb of Installed Memory is showing.

No I dont want any other partitions on my drive. I am not sure if my Unbutu is unistalled completely because all i done is removed the drive on Disk management. Now it says ''Unlocatted'' in black. I just want Windows 7 with no lag on my laptop. (Windows 7 only).

Ok, then boot the Windows 7 installer to wipe the drive and install.

You will do this by placing the DVD in the tray, restarting machine, then when prompted "hit any key to boot from DVD drive"

Select CUstom>Advanced drive tools to Delete everything on the drive, create New partition of entire drive, format (very important).

Do you have another computer there to use to communicate while the installation is progressing?
