Bootmgr is missing - different from others
many users, including me, get the message 'bootmgr is missing' but it seems their situations are different, so the suggested solutions don't work for me or are simply not understandable for a non-expert like me.
i have a brandnew netbook, acer aspire 1410, with windows 7 (64-bit) pre-installed - not on disc. external acer cd/dvd-drive.
after installing several programs i used window's disk management to make a partition on the harddisk: shrinked c for system/programs, d for data. had to restart, then got 'bootmgr is missing'.
i googled, found a way to use imgburn to burn a windows 7 64 bit repair disc.
changed the netbook's bios to boot from the dvd. one time something happened: windows was loading files, asked me for a repair, told me problems were found and windows would repair them. but not.
after new restart: same error message again. rebooting again from the repair dvd not possible. most of the time it is not recognized. burning a second dvd didnt help. sometimes there is first a message 'memory overflow error', after that 'bootmgr is missing'.
if it is missing, is there any other place where i can find 'it' (what exactly?), copy it and then put it... where? how?
i have another acer laptop, with windows vista 32 bit. is there anything in there i could copy to the new netbook?
or any other solution?
i could consider to reset everything to factory settings, but then i loose all my already installed programs/settings.
please be simple in your answer... or i will not understand.
thanks,
wim
