Home Network problem

Hi,

I'm new to Windows 7 and networking but have an ASUS wireless laptop connected to my home PC by a Netgear ADSL modem/wireless router (DG834GVv2). Both systems are running Windows 7 - 32 bit and can both access the internet. They are both in the same Home Group and have everything ticked under the "Share libraries and printers" options.

I also have a 3rd PC hooked up to the network which is running Windows XP so I've given all 3 machines the same Workgroup name (which is a different name to the Home Group name). It would be good to have the Windows XP computer networked as well but that isn't a priority, I mainly want the wireless laptop to file share with the Windows 7 PC.

The laptop can see the PC on the network and the PC can see the laptop but when I try to access either of them I get the "Windows cannot access \\" error message and something about check the spelling of the name. When I run the network trouble-shooter it says "Your broadband modem is experiencing connectivity issues" and the Problems Found are "The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken".

I don't really understand this error because as I said they can both access the internet ok and see each other on the network.

Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be because I rang Netgear for help and they wanted to charge me $159 to sign up for one years support.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem.

I searched the whole internet for solutions (dutch and english) but nothing has given me a solution yet.

One desktop and one laptop.
Both connected through cable on router.

Homegroup set up just fine, but then the fun(not) starts.

On my laptop i can see the desktop listed in the homegroup.
I see 3 folders (images, music, video) but when i click on them nothing happens.
On my desktop I can't see any computer listed.
It says that there are no other computers in the homegroup.

If i go through network, I can see both computers on both machines.
On the desktop I can see all shared folders and files on both system.
On the laptop I can see the desktop, but when I click it, it gives me the "Windows cannot access \\"-message.

I tried recreating homegroups, manually sharing folders, disabling all firewalls, checking homegroup and peer services, giving the workgroup the same name, giving the home network the same name

I Hope somebody can help us with this problem.

I have tried everything they mentioned, but it still doesn't work here.

I added a desktop to the situation so it now became the following:
- 1 router
- 2 desktops
- 1 laptop
- all windows 7 pro

homegroup works perfectly fine for the 2 desktops, but not on the laptop
No AV or firewall of any kind installed.

through homegroup:
Desktops can see each other and can open files, but can't see the laptop
The laptop sees both desktops but can't see any of the files.

through network:
Desktops can see all computers and can open all folders and files
the laptop can see all computers but can't get access to the desktop computers ("Windows cannot access \\" error messag)

If you need more info just ask.

I allready saw that page, but I checked everything again.

• IPv6 is Enabled
• They are connected to the Same Network
• The HomeGroup Password is the same on each system. Joining the HomeGroup is not the problem. Accessing files on the other systems in the HomeGroup is.
• Standard Windows Firewalls are turned on everywhere. No extra security software is installed.
• Network Discovery is turned on on each system.
• Clocks are synchronized.
• All windows 7 services that are needed in order for the HomeGroup networking feature to be working are running. In the Services dialog, the Startup type is set to Automatic and the services are running.
• Network Location of all computers is set to "Home network".
• Router Supports IPv6. When I ping to the hostname of a computer, it even uses the IPv6 address.

I even checked the comments, but they have other problems then mine.
I did however deleted everything in the C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking folder, just to give it a try.

The log gives me no errors that have anything to do with networking or homegrouping.

The problem persists.

It's hard to say what the problem might be and it's difficult to guess at this from where I'm sitting. I did make another Homegroup trouble shooter that might be worth going through.

I noticed you were asking about your Windows 7 machines not being picked up by your Blueray player. Have you gone into the streaming options in Windows media player yet?

Just open up WMP then go to stream button upper left. Put check marks in the two places where it says "Allow remote control of my media" and "allow other devices to play my media" also click on "more media options" and select "Allow all" in the list.

hi. i am new to this network thing dont know anything about it so i really need help... i have:
1. 1 laptop with windows 7 x 64 bit (original)
2. 1 PC with windows XP (not original)
3. 1 LAN cable connecting the two systems that is laptop and PC
4. 1 wireless internet device which is connected to the PC (XP) by usb cable

Now... i want to make the PC (XP) the main system which has direct connection to the internet... and my laptop (win 7) connects to the PC (XP) through the LAN cable and so i am able to use internet on my laptop also.

what i have already done is able to share files or drives from PC(XP) to Laptop (win 7) ONLY! i am unable to share files from win 7 to XP... dont know why... have tried everything... and have made a home group of the two... that is the win 7 shows that the two systems are connected but the internet is not connected even though it is working fine on the PC(XP)... i hope u guys have understood my problem and are able to help me... sorry if the msg is too long its my first one... :)
