Unable to Browse Network or map drives
Lenovo T410, Windows 7 Pro 64bit, domain member, communicating with multiple Windows Server 2003 - 2008.
A user's Windows XP laptop was corrupted and I rebuilt it with Windows 7 Professional 64bit. The user had an XP loaner while I was rebuilding, and it worked fine.
I built the laptop in our lab area and at my desk, and everything worked fine. When done, I took it back to the user, but started experiencing network problems at his desk. The first clue was that he didn't receive his normal drive mappings. I tried browsing to the shares and couldn't reach them. I tried by server name and by IP address with no luck. I could access the internet and internal websites including servers I couldn't browse to.
I brought the laptop back to my desk, and it worked fine again. My desk is on VLAN1. The user's desk is on VLAN2. I tried the laptop on two other ports on the user's switch, both were VLAN2. It worked fine on 1 and wouldn't work on the other.
I was thinking either a port issue, a switch issue, or a VLAN issue. My network guy checked the ports and they are all setup the same. He doesn't see any problems on the switch. And since it works on a VLAN2 port, it doesn't seem to be a VLAN communication issue.
I've checked all the NIC and firewall settings, and I don't see anything out of place. I swapped cables, tried it with and without his Cisco IP phone, tried it with and without his port replicator, ect.
I plan to try some different NIC drivers if I can ever get Lenovo's website to work. Anyone have any other ideas?
