Computer connected to internet wirelessly but webpages won't load

I am probably making a mistake when I suggest that people find their router's IP address via IPCONFIG. It appears that you are pinging your own computer's IP address. It also helps to know the router's IP address in order to change the WAP channel.

Okay, let me try that next week. Sorry, my girlfriend is using the laptop and she doesn't really like to troubleshoot this stuff. What do I type for "%UserProfile%"? I tried typing in (Batman is my username), "%Batman%\Desktop", "Batman\Desktop", "Users\Batman\Desktop". What am I doing wrong lol?

Hi Darknight

When you type in this " ipconfig/all > %UserProfile%\Desktop\IP.txt " the computer will automatically put the text file under this folder C:\Users\Batman\Desktop .

   Note
%UserProfile% is your Users\Batman folder . If you type %UserProfile% into the Search box in the Start Menu you will see that Batman folder comes up

So I should look for the IPv4 Address next?

Is this an issue with the wireless card? I don't really want to waste either of your time with trying to troubleshoot this issue if the wireless itself is faulty.

Once you get access to the laptop, then create that "IP.TXT" text file via those steps and upload it to the forum in your next post. We will look at it and suggest the next steps. You should not need to look for the router's IP address - we will look for you.

We cannot tell if it is a problem with the Wireless Network Adapter yet or just the drivers or something else.

Not a problem - just for my own notes:
Once we see the text file with the IPCONFIG info...
...we will help you connect to your router to change the channel to 3
(we can also look to see if there is an excess of 6to4 adapters)

You can expect a problem (delay) if the owner of the router does not know the password for the router's web based interface. If this is not known, then let us know the brand and model of the router (wireless access point).

Hi again,

I tried running that command but nothing comes up.

ipconfig/all > %UserProfile%\Desktop\IP.txt

Am I doing something wrong? Nothing is saved in the desktop or any other folder.

Sure...
Open a cmd prompt window and type in
ipconfig/all (with or without a space before the /all part)
Then post screenshots so that we can see each part.

You can also try replacing the path to the txt file with any complete path that you want.

Then you will want to open Internet Explorer...
...put 192.168.1.254 into the address bar
...press enter

Let us know the manufacturer and model number of the router. Then we might be able to tell you what screen to look for
to change the Wi-Fi channel.

And back on this post, the IP address of the router is 192.168.1.254.
The goal of those two files was to ping the router and to ping some computer beyond the router.

Are the drivers up to date for the wireless card?

Let's also put a file on your desktop to help monitor your connectivity:

Enable file extensions - if need be
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/10570-file-extensions-hide-show.html

create a new text file
open that new file in notepad
paste in this code
It must be early for me, what am I doing wrong here??

I open a txt doc on desktop, then add line of code, save and then rename?

I can create the text doc but this does nothing?

Ignore this sorted now :-)

Hi again,

I'm going to hit this issue this weekend. Sorry, it's been crazy busy for me. She's also connected via ethernet now, so I guess the issue isn't as pressing, but I'd still like to figure it out.

Will update with the information needed :) Thanks!
