That should not be the case if you have a strong password using WPA2 AES.

Create a long password with a sentence without spaces like, imgettingfedupwiththisorgasm

Some [cheaper?] Security systems work without needing access to a router, they are the router, so will often appear on the list of wireless items as they often use a standard network segment sometimes and no security.

Check access to the device itself, if you can fully access it then there is no security If a device is within "Sight" of your router and is using an IP address in the same segment, it will broadcast its presence and thus it will appear in the visible items but will not of course be accessible or be able to access the local router

They will normally disappear if the local network segment is changed to something different, rather than 192.168.0.1-255 or 192.168.1.1-255 try something like 192.168.43.1-255

Changing the password will better protect from specific attempts to access the local network and so is a good idea, but the accidental use of the same segment is unrelated to the security, it's just a basic annoyance
