Hi all,

I got a problem with my newly installed win 7 64 bit.

When I tried to connect it wirelessly to the internet (using the wireless USB adapter --> Zonet ZEW2546), it cannot detect any single network available, even though the router is just one floor below the PC.

But, when I tried to plug the USB adapter to the other PC, which runs on Win XP, on the same floor as mine, the adapter works perfectly, and I could surf the web from the Win XP.

What do you think the problem is? Hardware or driver?

Btw, I have specifically looked for the newest driver for the USB adapter (which also supports win 7 64-bit) and installed it to the new system, but still to of no avail.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Have you tried running the dongle with no drivers?

The Windows driver should kick in.

See how that goes.

has anyone ever sloved this issue? i am in the same boat after moving from XP to 64bit W7. W7 does not even recognize the ZEW2546 as nothing shows up in the device manager. it makes a strange tone when i insert the device in the usb port different from the tone it makes when i insert something that it recognizes like a flash drive. the device is supposed to be W7 compliant and there is a 64 bit W7 driver in the software but when i run the setup, i get the message Sorry! We do not support this operation system !!". when i plug it back into an XP machine it works perfectly. i have emailed the vendor but have not received a response yet.

okay markgil..

I have solved this prob, and the way I did it is that, I first connected my PC to the internet through ethernet (wired one), and then I plug the zonet USB dongle in.

Win 7 will automatically look for driver and installed it by itself, and
ta-da.. the zonet works.

P.S: do not install the driver by itself (download from zonet website), as it will not work. I have tried this.

thanks for the reply jemping but i actually solved this last night in a different manner. i received an email from zonet that told me to manually install the driver. i did so but it still didnt work because it was an unsigned driver and W7 would not recognize it even though it was loaded. a quick google search located a program which fixes unsigned drivers and after running it and rebooting was good to go. now if i could only get it to connect to my WRT54GL i would have internet access!
