Well, here's the whole network configuration

    Integrated NIC:
gigabit LAN to a small netgear switch which connects to the schools network.

    PCIe NIC:
Gigabit Lan to my WNR3500. Connected to that is my NAS from Iomega.
    desktop is reserved at 192.168.1.2
    NAS is reserved at 192.168.1.17

As for bridging the connections, im not sure if that's the best idea. I'm not supposed to even have this router but i need it. i tried to just use a crossover to connect to it, but that wouldnt allow me to connect my laptop or anyone else's computers up to my NAS for troubleshooting purposes.
The Network Operations Manager is quite strict, because this school has alot of private data throught its networks, and if i were ever to turn on the wireless in this router, they'd kill my internet.
So it looks like the only use for the WNR3500 is to use it's switch ports?

Setting a static IP for the LAN NIC isn't a bad idea. I suggested turning off the routing function on the WNR3500. That turns it into just a switch and prevents it from assigning default gateways and DNSes.

That was my thinking as well.

He wants to keep the WNR3500. So I'm gonna see if there are online instructions on how to turn it into a switch.

You should be able to leave DNS empty.

No instructions needed. Its all working now. Thank you all for your help. reps all around. Once i removed the default gateway and specified the local ip manually, it all fell into place.

    Unrelated:
I got my WEI up to 6.1!

That's great! Glad to hear you got it!

WEI of 6.1? WOW! You have a pretty intense system there.

Well, we were going to try to provide a solution without static IPs. But if static IPs are satisfactory, then go right ahead.

You may want to do that anyway. Certainly can't hurt and others may find it valuable.
