    I've disabled it but no difference. I was using passive mode ftp in Dreamweaver anyway.

    Ok, so through your ftp 'application'... Are you being prompted for a user name and password yet? Or is it giving any error message at this point?




    edit:

    Your sophos anti virus has a firewall client. This most likely is the issue. Can you disable your antivirus, then try again? You may have to disable the sophos through your msconfig 'startup' tab to truly test this.

    Sophos doesn't appear to have a firewall component.

    I've looked through the link to 'ftp problem' which sadly doesn't help. I've just tried to see if I can map an ftp site but it won't connect that way either.

    I've just rebooted my PC for another reason and now, for the first time in two weeks and for no apparent reason ftp is connecting fine.

    I wish I knew what was wrong and even more what has changed to make it right.
