For the rest of you reading this, don't think I'm looking for the demise of Apple or the whole "Apple is doomed" stuff. The unibody macbooks are pretty nice. If I had the disposable income, I might consider buying one of them, but I'd most likely run Windows on it. Again, I would still have to justify it to myself, and I would need a lot of disposable income

As I said, OSX has a certain finish to it that Windows (including Win 7) lack. Apple hires very good designers, who tend to not only look at a single device, but also the different ways it can inter-connect with other Apple devices.

I just can't justify the cost. Like I've said in a few other threads regarding Dell, I really like the Dell Studio line of laptops. If I had the money today, I'd get myself the Studio XPS 16. For less than $2000 I'd have a 4GB (upgrade to 8 possible) DDR3, 2.8 gHz lappy with a 512 GB discrete video and awesome rLED screen. Oh and a Blue-ray drive with a backlit keyboard.

No mac competes for bang for the buck.

But the competition is good. Windows 7 and Vista have elements that were certainly borrowed from OSX, just like OSX gains elements borrowed from Windows. These things are good.

when i look to my inspiron who is made of soooo many different pieces of plastic that after 3,5 years of use show important sings of wear. Had to change my keyboard, my battery, 2 of my 4 usb ports aren't working properly anymore, my screen is very wobbely and the plastics on the side of my screen are broken and detaching themselves, got a crack in the plastic on the right side, my dvd-writer make weirdo noises and got failure of burning 1/3 times, my fan makes a airplane noise once in a while (very nice in a library)....

So buy a PC!!, but don't buy a Dell (laptop)

My wife is still using her Inspiron 17" that she bought 4 or 5 years ago. It's missing the TAB key on the keyboard and I had to buy a new battery late last year. Everything else works just fine. She owns three bars and takes it with her every other day to download inventory information. The unit has been dropped, had liquids spilled on it, etc. I have taken the keyboard out and cleaned more than once.

All in all, a very good Dell experience. Have you seen the new Studio line of laptops? Very sturdy design (not unibody sturdy) and not too heavy. Battery usage is still a big win for OSX, but I can't complain about it. My son's lappy has Vista Home Premium and he runs it on battery all the time at school. Has never had issues with running out of power in class. Win 7 should be better on that front.

It is based on the wife's and the son's experiences that I would buy another Dell.

That is very funny because it is true.

I do have to give props to whoever is doing the outstanding work with the Ad's for Apple.

Without the Ad's Apple would still be nothing and not even considered. The marketing has paid off, but I still think they are spending way way more than they should be. I bet they spend 1 billion + easy on marketing. If Microsoft is spending 300 million and you see the Ad's only once and a while you have to assume Apple is spending at least 5 times that amount.

When was the last time you watched a program on TV (local station) on prime time and not seen an Ad for a Apple product? Most likely it has been months.

But it must be working so they are most likely not going to stop...
