    Added these to my system....

    Attachment 306401

Audioengine's A5+ powered bookshelf speakers & the their S8 Subwoofer (not shown)

    - A5+ Speakers
    - S8 Subwoofer

These speakers play very nicely with SoundBlaster's ZXR soundcard. Very impressive, especially for music lovers.

My only regret is not getting the bamboo colored ones (A5+), even though they were 70 bucks more
Those look really good, I'm still using a Logitec with satellite speakers/sub. I need to upgrade to something like your set up

Drew, Very nice speakers and powered is a great way to go on a desk set up. I had AR powered partners till I went the nine yards with my current set up. For nearfield play I'm sure those totally rock and yes the bamboo are trick looking and could actually be a bit livelier sounding.
Thanks Alan, I'm very happy with them.

Anyway I know they're not in your league, but very few of us venture in the extreme high end of audio equipment

Yeah I finally retired my 12 year old Altec Lansing ACS641 Speakers in favor of these. Big difference sound wise, though the Altec's did feature a powered bass module that was quite impressive. In the end I chose this system because I didn't see any other "PC" speaker system giving me what I wanted in sound quality, especially bass wise.

A small expense but I'm very happy I got this setup :)

Those look really great Drew. I'm no audiophile though, my "speakers" is a $10 headset from Wal-Mart.

I'm confused about them though, this is a front and rear view, where are the speaker cones and grilles?

Sorry you lost me - speaker cones? As in what you're looking at in the bottom image?

As for grills, there aren't any. You just have to be careful not to poke at them

BTW the bass module also has an exposed cone, but it's facing downward.

The side the sound comes out of I mean.

This is the side. These are the cones - Tweeter, Mids/Bass.

The Bass module is a separate unit....

BTW the speaker with the heatsink sticking out is the powered speaker (left), and feeds a signal to the other speaker (right) via speaker cable.

OK, so where are the connectors and such? In each of the pics I posted, there are blank side all around.

Ok Gary please excuse me If I think you're pulling my leg, but....

    A5+ Audion connections...

    Show Us Your Rig [6]-a5-connections.jpg

On the left speaker, you connect an input source from a sound source like a soundcard or iPod. The speaker itself has a the built in power amp and thus also have a volume control. The speaker also has an output jack that connects to another source like a subwoofer. The right speaker is connected to the left speaker via speaker wire.

For my setup, I've got my soundcard connected to the subwoofer (input) and the A5 speakers getting their signal from the sub's output to the speaker's input.

    Basically this setup....

Since the sub has a pass through, the signal from the sub is unaltered and the A5's get the full range signal.

    Again apologies for the misunderstandings

No, I wasn't pulling you leg, but my brain froze some, jeez. I looked at the pics as the front and back of one unit, not realizing it's two units. I can be so dense at times.

I'm going to my room now.

LOL - OK, I get it now

Yeah those are two units; 3 if you count the sub.

Anyway we've have those days, but for a minute I thought you were messing with me

Anyway it's all good; I've certainly had my dense times here

    Peace
