I7950 TJ cooling problems?

Hey

If you hadn't seen my other post on my i7's high temp, it was 80-90 at idle .
now, I've spent about half an hour to seat the CPU perfectly and the CPU cooler (stock) as best i can.
i'm running 30-40 idle << huge improvement- at 80 the CPU cooler was heating my ram. TJ distance max 60.
The x58 sink seems to be very warm for idle.

Are there any small fans that could lower the temp on parts of the motherboard? (chip-set, North/South.

Thanks in advance, yes these questions are nub, but Ive worked my ass for the i7 i want it to last as long as possible.

You could try a spot cooler. Around $20 - $35 depending on where you buy it. Eg. Antec Spot Cool Adjustable Case Cooling | VGA Cooler

I went through similar experiences not long ago myself. I ended up getting a new case - The Antec 900 Two. I also bought a Noctua aftermarket cooler and dropping some voltages in CMOS. One thing I found was more important than I had previously thought was air flow through the case. You have to make sure there are no cables or anything else obstructing the airflow.

If you're really adventurous you could try lapping your heat sink. This is a process of making it almost perfectly flat so that you get better contact with the CPU. Eg Atomic guide to CPU lapping - CPUs, Motherboards & RAM - Build - Features - Atomic MPC

I have a HP DV6 that is about 2 years old. After an 18 hour downtime (normally it is always on and booted-necessary...
